FRANCES PETASKI Frances Petaski, beloved wife to the late Joseph Petaski, peacefully passed away on October 28, 2014 at the Kildonan Personal Care Home at 98 years of age. Frances leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Vienna Steciuk (Guenter Klein), Joan (William) deGroot, and son Joe (Susan) Petaski; grandchildren, Candace (David) Skromeda, Richard (Sue) Nowell, William (Marilena) deGroot, Dr. Grant (Nathalie) deGroot, Michelle deGroot, Andrea (David) Carpenter, Amanda (Ian) Palsson, and Joey (Shelley) Petaski. Mom was blessed to have 16 great-grandchildren Kristian, Benjamin and Ava Skromeda; Ryland and Emmett Nowell; Alessandro, Julianna deGroot, Justin and Alexandra deGroot, Larissa, Erik, and Liam Palsson, Megan and Emma Carpenter, and Jake and Nolan Petaski. Mom is survived by in-laws Wanda Cybulsky, Blanche (Sam) Donachuk, Casmir (Mary) Petaski, Pauline Banash, Angela Bunio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Joe (1986), her parents Michael and Annie Cybulsky, brothers Jack and Bill Cybulsky, sons-in-law Richard Nowell and Victor Steciuk; in-laws Sophie Cybulsky, Annie (Theophil) Onhaiser, Helen (Bill) Semenchuk, Rose (Pete) Bochen, Mary (Walter) Danko, and Michael (Margaret) Petaski. Mom was born on February 28, 1916 in Selkirk. Mom worked alongside her parents on their market garden. Mom and Dad married January 28, 1939. Mom and Dad worked hard on their East Lower Fort Garry grain and potato farm. Along with raising her family, Mom also had a large garden which she shared with her children. Mom was an excellent cook, her perogies, holopchi and prune buns were amazing. After Dad's passing, Mom moved to Winnipeg in 1997 and then to the Kildonan Personal Care Home in 2008. Family was very important to Mom and Dad as well as education. We were never kept home from school to help on the farm. Mom also loved knitting, embroidery and singing hymns. Mom also loved to be on the go, whether it be visiting family and friends, playing bingo with Aunty Wanda, shopping with Vienna, or just going for a drive. Mom and Dad enjoyed many trips to California to visit her cousins, enjoy the warm weather and attend every flea market, searching for those special gifts to bring home. They also visited Detroit to visit Dad's sister Angela and Bill Bunio. We would like to thank all the staff of the Kildonan Personal Care Home for all the loving care Mom received, for the singing of Ava Maria and the saying of the Lord's Prayer when Mom was put to bed. Thank you. Prayers will be held Thursday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, Manitoba. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 1, 10:00 a.m. in the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 5819 Henderson Hwy., Narol, Manitoba. Father Anthony officiating. Interment will follow in the Churchyard cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances' memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Pallbearers will be Richard Nowell, Dave Skromeda, Joe Petaski, Jr., William deGroot, Jr., Kristian and Ben Skromeda. Rest in Peace. We love you. • Many memories of my dear Aunt Frances to share, but here is one of my favorites. We celebrated Ukrainian Christmas when my Baba and Gido Cybulsky were alive. My mother (Sophie), Aunt Frances and Aunt Wanda Cybulsky would be at their house that day preparing our Christmas feast. What a feast it was!! Pyrohy, holubchi, peroshky were my favorites. We would all crowd into their living room and share our meal, exchange gifts and sing carols. Santa might also arrive. I am so grateful for family, memories and traditions of which my Aunt Frances was a significant part. - Posted by: richard cybulsky (nephew) on: Oct 29, 2014
