Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHELDON BLOOMER Passed away on October 13, 2014. He will be sadly missed by friends and family. Born Earl Sheldon Bloomer on November 24, 1928 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Sheldon was raised on a farm in Headingley, Manitoba with siblings: Edward (Ted) deceased (Lorraine), Naomi (husband Bill deceased), and Lloyd (Bev). Headingley and Charleswood, Manitoba were home to Sheldon for the first 39 years of his life. Sheldon was involved in many diverse business ventures. He owned hotels and pubs, heavy equipment franchises and oilfield companies. He was a real estate developer and even promoted rock concerts in the 1960s. Sheldon was the consummate entrepreneur. Hockey was a great part of Sheldon's life. Sheldon played in the New York Rangers organization for seven years. This included playing for the legendary Eddie Shore of which he had many stories to tell. Sheldon would often imitate Eddie barking at him on the ice.... "Can you dance Mr. Bloomer, Can you dance." In 2003 Sheldon was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame as a proud member of the Winnipeg Maroons Hockey Club which represented Canada at many international competitions and became the Canadian National Team. Sheldon played on the "Old Timer" hockey teams of Winnipeg, Edmonton, Kelowna and Vernon, collectively for over 40 years. Sheldon is survived by long-time friend Joyce Schaefer, as well as his four children: Shelley Gill (Stan), Wade Bloomer (Deb), Shawna Zadeiks (Ed), and Jacquie Laguardia, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. I was saddened to hear of Sheldon's passing from Ron Castelane, a mutual friend. We were teammates of Sheldon's on several hockey teams. Sheldon was one of a solid defensive core with Juzda, Johnson, Marshall, Simnpson & Lyndon...in Eddie Shore terms they all "could dance"! Sheldon was a great teammate for whom I had admiration and respect. The obituary on his life after hockey outlines the great worth of this fine man! My sincere sympathy to Joyce and the entire Bloomer family. - Posted by: John Rendall (friend) on: Nov 02, 2014
