DOUGLAS FREDERICK (FRED) HAZELWOOD January 30, 1933 October 10, 2014 We very sadly announce the sudden passing of our Dad while driving home from a Manitoba vacation. Dad was born to Sidney and Margaret Hazelwood in Stoney Mountain, MB. Dad met Mom, Blanche Champagne in Winnipeg and they were married in 1951. Mom and young son Douglas moved to Calgary while Dad served with the Lord Strathcona Horse which he proudly served for 23 years. His tours included Korea, Egypt, Cyprus and Germany and he retired in 1973. Dad joined the R.C.M.P. in 1973, served for 20 years and retired in 1993. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Blanche of almost 60 years in 2011. Also predeceasing him were his parents, his brothers Sid and Alex, and his sisters Gladys and Louise. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by sons Doug (Angie), Dale and daughter Wendy; sisters Margaret Cooney, Doreen Stansfield (Jim), brothers Michael (Audrey), George (Marg); grandchildren Jayson, Casey, April, Tracey, Jessie (Brent), Codie (Preston) and several great-grand-children. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Regretfully, I have no memory of every having met Mr. Douglas Hazelwood, but none-the-less, I wish to extend my condolences on the loss of your loved one. I also served in the Canadian Armed Forces, but in the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals, and did stints in Egypt and the Belgian Congo, under the auspices of the United Nations Emergency Force. I was born in the Steinbach area just 3 days before Douglas, on Jan 27, 1933, and served in Egypt in 1959 and the Congo in 1962. Though I have retired in San Antonio, TX, I do keep in touch with family and friends in Winnipeg and in Western Canada. Perhaps in the near future I will get to meet Douglas beyond the Great Divide and answer Roll Call by the Great Commander. May God bless you all. - Posted by: Gordon Giesbrecht (Comrade in Arms) on: Nov 01, 2014
