REGINALD ROBERTS ROBERTSON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Reginald Roberts Robertson on October 27, 2014 at 89 years of age. He will be lovingly remembered by his children including Jane Robertson (Kim Tetley), his grandchildren including Jamie Robertson (Michael Trembley), his first great-grandchild Gabriel Lee Trembley Robertson, and many friends and former co-workers including Heather Ramsay (Neil Ramsay) Special thanks to his home care attendants and to Drew for all her help. He was predeceased by wife Margaret Robertson (nee Chappell), and his son Richard Allen Robertson. A proud Scot, who was born in Kilmarnock, on October 3, 1925. A graduate of the University of Strathclyde in Electrical Engineering. His professional career took him to many places in the world, and he was a proud professional Engineer in England, Scotland, Turkey and Canada. He immigrated with his family in 1966, he helped design, build and commission the first float-glass plant in North America for Pilkington Glass. After deciding that Canada held more opportunities for his family, the Robertson Clan permanently made Canada their home. He was hired by Dominion Bridge Montreal, and was eventually moved to Manitoba to help design the Number 4 Mill at Manitoba Rolling Mills in Selkirk, Manitoba. He became President and CEO of Manitoba Rolling Mills and led the way in the development of Special Steels, Special Grades and Special Shapes being produced at a Mini-Mill. Later in life, he became an inventor and holder of a number of different patents. Reg never stopped thinking about new ideas and new technologies to make the world a better place. He enjoyed his family and his friends, a nice glass of single malt at night, and lively discussions about football - the real kind, not this North American stuff. Reg had a strong sense of right and wrong, and believed in honouring commitments. His word was his bond and a handshake was a gentleman's agreement. He was a proud member of the Mason's, The Manitoba Club and up until his passing, The Winnipeg Squash Club. Reg believed in the decency of human beings and strived to treat people as he wanted to be treated, something he has passed down to his family. His smile and the twinkle in his eye will be greatly missed, and fondly remembered. As per his request, no funeral service will be held, however a casual gathering of friends to remember and celebrate his memory will be held November 8, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at his daughter's residence (please contact Kim at nzcdn79@gmail.com) for further information. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation. "Sleep well Pops, we love you."
