THOMAS JOSEPH BATES On Monday October 27, 2014 surrounded by his family and their love Thomas Bates peacefully passed away at the age of 89 years. Tom will be warmly remembered and survived by his children Shirley (Tyrone), Gerrie (Brian), Tim (Marlene), Tom, step-daughter Jo-Anne, his grandchildren, Dave B., Kelly (Colleen), Eileen (Kevin), Jerry (Theresa), Susie (John), Dave S., and great-grandchildren, Emma, Brian and Hailey; his brothers Walter of B.C. and Larry (Gerrie), sister-in-law Jean Bates, and many nieces, nephew and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Margaret Bates, four brothers, and three sisters, beloved soul mate and wife Eileen, and later his special partner and lifelong friend Maggie (Falcon). Tom was born October 3, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and served in The Second World War, during which time he met his sweetheart, wife Eileen in England while serving overseas. Forever in our hearts, we will always remember your whistling and singing and your great wit! Dad, there's a fishing boat complete with cold root beer and Hank Snow tunes waiting for you in heaven. You're free now. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the St. Boniface Palliative Care staff for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas' memory may be made to a charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
