JOSEPH HENRY DORAN Change in Date of Service Following a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Henry Doran on October 31, 2014, at the age of 84 years, at the Health Sciences Centre with family by his side. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by Phyllis, his wife of 60 years, sons Joe Jr. and Ken (Kathleen), and sister Betty Johnson. He was predeceased by infant son Philip Joseph, father Joseph, mother Beatrice, sister Ellen. Joseph will be remembered as a kind, caring and devoted husband and father who also actively volunteered his time in the community. Czaykowski, nurse Denise, Dr. J. Milner, nurse Jennifer, and the team at CancerCare and Health Sciences Centre. Joe was a wonderful, warm person and I always enjoyed our monthly chats when he would call me up to volunteer at Chad's. He did such a great job behind the scenes organizing the bar for the residents and it brought a lot of joy to them. For myself, I can be shy at times but he made it easy to commit to volunteering at Deer Lodge and it has become an important part of my routine. It was my pleasure getting to know him these last few years and I will miss our monthly chats. - Posted by: Kirsten Cummings (Volunteer) on: Nov 19, 2014

Joe was a wonderful father-in-law who treated me like one of his own children. I will miss him immensely, and fondly remember our many celebrations and family gatherings where Joe always had a joke and wore a smile. A devoted husband of 60 years, caring father/father-in-law and all around great man, Joe will be truly missed. My deepest sympathies to Phyllis, Ken and Joey for their loss. We love you Joe. - Posted by: Kathleen Doran (Daughter-in-law) on: Nov 05, 2014

Phyllis, Joe Jr., Ken (Kathleen) words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss. When you lose someone like Uncle Joe you truly realize just how much he meant to so many people. We have so many great and funny memories of family get togethers at Joe and Phyllis' home. Joe was a very caring person and we thank him for his frequent visits to Sheri's father while he was a patient at Deer Lodge Hospital, Gordie really appreciated the visits. This past summer I picked up Joe and Phyllis in my Camaro and took them for a summer cruise. Joe made Phyllis sit in the back and I really think he just wanted to make sure I did not speed. They were like two young kids that day. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Grant, Sheri and family - Posted by: Grant Johnson (Nephew) on: Nov 04, 2014

We had the honour of meeting Joe at my daughter's marriage to Ken. What a delightful man, with a wonderful wife. We became good friends over the years and enjoyed our kibitzing whenever we all got together. Joe will be sadly and lovingly missed. Condolences to Phyllis, Joey, Ken and Kathleen. - Posted by: Sheila Smith & Richard Francis (Consider ourselves family) on: Nov 04, 2014

My Uncle Joe was truly one of a kind! A devoted loving husband and father. Always put his family first. Forever teasing me! but also lended an ear to listen, then my husband and my daughter came along, he sure took quite an interest in them. You were a great mentor in our lives. You will be truly missed. And in our hearts forever. God bless my aunty Phyllis, cousins Joe and Ken (Kathleen). Love Sharon, Todd, and Tianna. - Posted by: Sharon Williamson (niece) on: Nov 04, 2014

What can I say about my Uncle Joe other than he was a Great Uncle, caring family man and a best friend. Joe, Joey or uncle Joe was a character right from the time I was a kid... the pool games and water fights in grandma Doran's basement to the visits to the Antons farm will remain with me for the rest of my life. Later in life our visits were less frequent but always enjoyable and memorable. Phyllis, Joe and Ken we are so sorry for your loss..... Sorry to hear about Joe's passing. But that is part of life. I still have very fond memories about the time my wife and I knew Joe and his wicked sense of humour. Phylis, I am in the phone book. Give me a call sometime. I will be at the Grace Hospital from Nov. 10 to 17 for a knee replacement, but would love to hear from you when convenient. So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. His volunteer work at MDC was valuable and appreciated by all of the residents and families. My late brother George's times at the camp at the lake were some of his favourite times. With sympathy, Leo Clarke - Posted by: Leo Clarke (Friend ) on: Nov 03, 2014
