It's hard to believe that 60 years have passed since Don was my first boss when I was a student-worker in mining exploration near Kenora, Ontario. We were roommates for three years in rooming houses which catered to university students in Winnipeg, until Jacquie stole him away. When I moved out to Vancouver 25 years ago we lost touch, but I have never forgotten him. In fact, only last week I used a phrase which my wife of 47 years immediately knew was derived from my association with Don. I am sad to learn that he has passed on, but he will live forever in my memory. - Posted by: John Bissett (Friend) on: Mar 03, 2015

DT was a good friend of mine. I set him up on a blind date for a university geology group party with Jacquie Elliot who became his first wife. I was an usher at his wedding and my wife was Jacquie's Matron of Honour. We were a close knit group until graduation when we went our separate ways. Don and I maintained our friendship and he often stayed with us when he visited his children in Ottawa. I vividly remember a time when he and my brother-in-law Doug Gibson were staying with us After a busy evening around the rye bottle Doug was telling stories about life as an Air Canada pilot and Don was supplying all the sound effects. I gave up and went to bed and felt better than either of them in the morning. Goodbye my friend. Stir up heaven and please don't stake the Golden Gates - Posted by: Colin Riley (friend) on: Nov 04, 2014

A truly remarkable man with an infectious sense of humour. Over the years I can't recall a day when he wasn't laughing or making another laugh. His manner of teaching was a succesfull melding of the technical and common sense reality. Rest well DT and God bless you. - Posted by: Rick Lemoine (Former student at U of M Geology) on: Nov 04, 2014
