ABDUL SALIM Abdul Salim passed away peacefully on November 1, 2014, at the age of 74. Abdul (known to many as Salim) leaves his wife of 41 years, Ingse, daughter Farha, son Kasim, son-in-law Michael Ullyot, daughter-in-law Erica Pashley, and much-loved grandchildren Sabine, Mira, Leah and Aaron. Salim had a particularly close relationship with his brother, Amjad. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Salim arrived in Winnipeg in 1968 to attend the University of Manitoba. Salim loved Winnipeg, and helped countless people in this community through many years of service as a social worker/counsellor at Age and Opportunity, specializing in grief and bereavement. In recent years, Salim found community at the Reh-Fit Centre. Professionally and personally, Salim listened, advised, and never left anything unsaid. Dad, we always took your words to heart. Salim's family deeply appreciates the love and support of extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Salim's memory can be made to a charity of your choice. A private memorial service was held for family.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I met Abby 5 yrs. ago when we moved next door to him & his gracious wife Ingse. He introduced himself the very first day & we quickly became good friends. Our love of Saturday morning garage sales was the time that he would speak so highly of his wife, children & his very much loved grandchildren. We spent hours talking & not a bad word or comment ever left his lips. He left a huge hole in my heart as I miss his kindness, wisdom & overall positive outlook on life. His love & respect for his family, especially his wife, Ingse, was truly inspirational & spiritual. My deepest sympathy goes out to Ingse & his children & grandchildren. I'm very thankful to have met such a beautiful & generous gentleman. - Posted by: Charmaine J. Bohémier (Friend) on: Dec 08, 2014

  • I'm so sorry to hear of Abdul's passing. I worked with Abdul at Age & Opportunity for 6 years. I learned a lot from him, and I always enjoyed his great sense of humour. We used to joke that I would be his Friendly Visiting Volunteer when he retired. Occasionally, I would run into him at Grant Park mall. He always greeted me with a big smile and genuine kindness. I'm glad I got to know him, and I know he will be missed. - Posted by: Susan Sader () on: Nov 18, 2014

  • I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your father and only wish that I had an opportunity to meet him. I have heard of what a special person he was and know that he will be with you always. May your family find peace in this difficult time and know that your friends are here to support you during this time of loss. - Posted by: Melissa Cook () on: Nov 05, 2014

  • I doubt I will again meet a man so overtly and exuberantly proud of his children. He could not contain his joy at the mere thought of them. May your family be comforted by the deep happiness that you brought your dad, and the knowledge that you will one day be reunited with him. - Posted by: Lisa Statt Foy () on: Nov 04, 2014

  • My deepest sympathy goes out to a wonderful wife, caring children and spouses, the four adorable grandchildren of Abdul Salim. Every visit I had with his family was always a memorable time. He will be sadly missed by each and every person that he met. I am very sorry your loss, thinking of all of you. - Posted by: Lou Anne Pashley () on: Nov 04, 2014
