I knew Jim when he went to Red River College. He achieved his Red Seal and went on to have a successful career in the food industry. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. - Posted by: Bernadette (Friend) on: Nov 18, 2014

I am very sad to read about Jim’s passing. Jim was a dear friend. A friendship bonded during our volunteer service to the community of River Park South in the early 1980’s as founding directors and members of the executive in development of Dakota Community Centre (now Toews Community Centre). Very few people know the stories as to where, when, and why the Community Centre was built, the difficulties in starting up from scratch recreational programs and services without even having a building, recreation or sporting equipment to support, or finances to maintain, and Jim was very much instrumental through his leadership in being involved and getting the job done! In less than two years a Community Centre was born and hundreds of children, teens, and adults were involved in recreation and sporting events for the first time on a scale unprecedented in Winnipeg community history. Jim received numerous Community Committee and Provincial awards for services rendered and selfless dedication volunteering his services. Indeed the people of River Park South and the City of Winnipeg owe a debt of gratitude for the volunteer service of Jim and Jim’s legacy. A friendship bonded in community need and lifelong friendship bonded with the heart. Jim will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Terry Holden (Calgary Alberta) (Friend) on: Nov 17, 2014

The Ashcroft family were friends of our family for many years.....I attended school with Chris, went to both Jim & Lee's weddings and even had Terri as a sitter for our daughter for a while. Our deepest sympathies in your loss, and may your memories comfort you. - Posted by: Drew & Denyse (Desorcy) Bourre (Family Friend) on: Nov 12, 2014

Michelle, Robert and Paul. We are so extremely saddened by the loss of your father and our brother. We have such wonderful memories especially this past year with the many visits we were able to enjoy with him. He was so proud of the both of you and was never afraid to say so. May the memories you have made together over the years watching his favorite hockey or football team or in the kitchen putting his cooking skills to work, provide you with comfort, peace and a few laughs. That is how we will remember him. - Posted by: Lee and Anne Ashcroft (Brother and Sister in law) on: Nov 10, 2014

I was shocked and saddened to open the Free Press today and see that Jim has passed away. I worked with him years ago when I first started cooking professionally, in 2001. Jim taught me a thing or two, and let me know about the "magic broom" that sweeps UNDER the counters, not just around them. To his family, my deepest condolences. Jim was a good man, and I have nothing but fond memories of him. May he rest in peace. Jim, you will be missed. You and your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Michelle Kososki (former co-worker) on: Nov 08, 2014

I will miss Jim at our local. I knew him and his family since the old Canberra days. Jim and I talked about the fun we all had back in Windsor Park. He was very proud of his daughter and son and spoke of them often. I will miss his friendly pat on the back and wish him peace Sandi Finch - Posted by: Sandra Finch (Friend and neighbour as children) on: Nov 08, 2014

We had good times at Dals and Bellamys. His love of the Jets was unparalleled. It was nice to see he and Michelle watching the games together. Will miss his laugh. - Posted by: Stef (Friend) on: Nov 08, 2014
