Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER VINCENT O'HARA Born: January 14, 1954 Died: October 29, 2014 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Vincent O'Hara, on October 29, 2014 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Peter was born January 14, 1954 in Trenton, Ontario to an Air Force family and as a result, he spent time growing up in England, Winnipeg and finally settling in Gimli, Manitoba. Peter was foremost a family man. He loved Joanne, his wife of 39 years, dearly, loved travelling west to visit his kids, enjoyed camping, skiing and having fun in the lake. He loved sipping his morning coffee on the deck with Joanne or anyone who would care to join. He was a constant source of amusement, care and love to his grandkids, nieces and nephews. He spent many days helping his son Stuart build a cabin and renovate a house in Gimli. He was a devoted son while his parents were alive taking care of them in their later years. Peter was also a great handyman and a fix-it genius. He was constantly working to improve the comfort and look of his family home and yard. He never threw anything away and could make something out of nothing. A piece of junk may later prove its usefulness if given time and thought. Peter loved his neighbours. He was always there to lend a hand. He had a very special bond with Noelle Barnes, spending time with her everyday making sure her needs were met. Peter had a very active recreational life. He loved fishing in general, particularly ice-fishing with Joanne. They also flew to Paint Point every year to fish and hang out with friends. A day of fishing was never bad because the lunch was always good. He was involved in hockey for many years both coaching his boys and playing with the Gimli Wolves, the Old Hotel Warriors and the Frontiersmen. He also enjoyed early morning walks with Joanne as a great way to start each day. Peter worked a few different jobs before working 34 years with the Evergreen School Division as a school bus driver and mechanic. There he developed many lasting friendships among his fellow drivers. He worked with Nestor Cherniak whom he considered a mentor as well as Steve and Len who were like brothers. He also loved the kids on his bus route through the years and they loved him back. Peter was predeceased by his parents Harold and Audrey O'Hara, and his sister Sandra Woodman. He is survived by his wife Joanne, his sons Lee (Jen), Stuart (Allison), and daughter Katelynn. "Grampy" will be sorely missed by Stella, Lewis and Emily whom he adored. He is also survived by his siblings and in-laws: Rick (Lynn) O'Hara, Patrick (Debbie) O'Hara, Susan (Jay) Golembleski, Al Woodman, Barry and Alida Erickson, Susie and Brian Jakobson, Marilyn and Rick Klimczak, and Brad and Tannis Erickson. "Uncle Pete" will be sincerely missed by numerous nieces and nephews as well. There will be no formal service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date, likely in the summer when the weather suits an outdoor event as Peter would have wanted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. We would like to thank our friends and relatives for the love and support shown during this difficult time.
