HELEN RIDDELL (nee HRYNYK) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Riddell on November 6, 2014 at St. Boniface General Hospital. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her family, Heather, Jason, Laurie, Curtis, Doone, James, Mark, Laurie, Alex and Brenton, and her extended family, Nancy, Petra, Duane and Cleo. She was predeceased by her husband Ron and sister Sophie. She is survived by brothers Louis and Donald, and in-laws Elsie, Pam, Enid and Russell. Helen was raised on the family farm in Hazelridge, Manitoba. In her teen years she moved to Winnipeg where she met and married Ron. Happy years followed raising their family, first in Warren, Manitoba and later in Winnipeg. She made many lifelong friends during this time. Helen opened her first restaurant, Sherwin Park, in 1973. She went on to establish two other restaurants before entering the entertainment business, along with her sons, with the opening of the Blue Note Cafe and the Spectrum Cabaret. Helen loved and accepted her family unconditionally, and supported them in all of their endeavors. Helen and Ron resided in the Kenora area upon retirement. Friends were warmly welcomed in their home. In recent years, she enjoyed preparing favourite dishes, playing cards with her grandchildren, tending her flowers on the deck, and seeking out the best blueberry patches. Mom's kind and generous presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Thank-you to everyone for your caring thoughts, calls and visits. A memorial service will be held in June, in Warren, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
