Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN KAUS Helen Kaus (nee Poth) passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the age of 90, after a stroke and brief time in the hospital. Mom is survived and will be forever, dearly missed by her son Wilbert (Elma) and grandchildren Carson and Destiny of Caronport, SK; daughters Darlene of Winnipeg, and Adeline (Bert) Wiens and grandsons Evan and Nathan of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her sister Else (Waldemar) Nikolaj of Edmonton, AB; brother Daniel Poth of Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law Norma West and Dorothy Kaus of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Herbert (Hazel) Kaus of Thunder Bay, ON; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her kind and friendly spirit. Mom was predeceased by her husband David in 1994 after 43 years of marriage; parents Friedrich and Elisabetha Poth; sisters Maria and Katharina; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, two nieces and one nephew. Mom was born in Surtschin, Yugoslavia on September 29, 1924 and had a very happy childhood until the age of 18 when her world was torn apart by the Second World War. She and her family fled for their lives to Austria. After surviving the war, her family immigrated to Alberta, Canada in 1948. She married Dad on June 13, 1951. They spent most of their lives farming together in Moosehorn, MB. She and Dad accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and were baptized a few years after they were married. They attended church faithfully and served in whatever way they could. In 1990 she and Dad retired to Southdale in Winnipeg. Mom was devoted to her family, always putting others before herself. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a wonderful mother and Oma, hard-working and generous. Soon after Dad's sudden passing, Mom moved to the Granite House Apartments where she greatly enjoyed her time. A special thank you to her many friends there. She so loved chatting and playing Skip-Bo with you all. Mom's funeral will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Rowandale Baptist Church, 162 Rowandale Ave. Viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment to be held at 4:00 p.m. at Moosehorn Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moosehorn Baptist Church, Box 63, Moosehorn, MB R0C 2E0.

That would have been Adeline's wedding in Moosehorn; Darlene is single. Thank you for the kind tributes to Mom who was indeed a wonderful cook and so much more. She was always happy when people enjoyed her cooking. Besides good genes, Mom gave me an example of a strong woman who was kind, caring, accepting of others, generous, selfless, humble and quick to forgive. She also had a deep trust in God. I miss her already. - Posted by: Darlene () on: Nov 13, 2014

Darlene, Adeline, Wilbert and families, I am so sorry that you’ve lost your mother. She was a gallant woman, kind and strong; courageous through the difficult times, yet always putting others first. I will always remember how warm and hospitable she was when I visited there. She deeply loved you all and was so proud of you! I know you will miss her greatly; may God comfort you each day. You are all in my prayers. - Posted by: Aida Cordano (Friend of Darlene) on: Nov 13, 2014

Deepest condolences from the Sagerts in Calgary. I'll never forget driving out to Moose Jaw with mom, Oma Hugel and the Nikolajs for Darlene's wedding and Tante Helen making the most amazing perogies. Mona (Nikolaj) and I ate them the whole way back to Edmonton. You are with us in our hearts, minds and prayers during this difficult time. Oh my goodness the memories I have. How many weekends and Sunday dinners did I have at the farm in Moosehorn? Way too many to count. I can still taste my favourites - Rouladen and that poppy seed coffee cake your mom made. I was treated like a member of the family and the kindness and generosity has never been forgotten. I still use the embroidered dresser scarves and table cloth she made and gave to me at Christmas. Although you know she is rejoicing and walking the streets of heaven, happy and well, the pain of losing your mother is still there, so I will keep you all in my prayers. - Posted by: Marlene Kuehl () on: Nov 12, 2014
