JOYCE BRAZER On Friday, November 7, 2014, Joyce Brazer (nee Macrimmon) spread her wings and has flown from this earth. Joyce was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great friend to so many. Mom had not been well for some time and was admitted to St. Boniface Hospital on Tuesday, October 27. Mom passed quietly, without pain, with family and her cherished cat Trouble at her bedside. Mom leaves behind to remember and cherish her memory, her husband, David Brazer, son Clyde Brazer (Kathy), daughters Sherri Brazer and Cindy Brazer, her five grandchildren, Michael Manchuk (Sarah), Brent Manchuk (Ashley), Greg Ritchie, Jennifer Ritchie / Sanderson (Chris) and Samara Brazer, her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ezra, Ana and Linus Manchuk, McKinnley and Abahya Sanderson, and her sisters-in-law, Betty Schecter and Shirley Brazer. She will be greatly missed by her nephew Gary Schecter, with whom she travelled to Scotland to revisit the places most important to her childhood and adolescent years. She leaves behind many friends; June, Pat K., Pat D., Jaik, Brent, Jeff, Jan, Diane J. and all her Klinic family. Her Harrington and Bellamy nieces and nephews who meant the world to her, along with many other friends, too many to mention but you all know who you are. Mom was born in Winnipeg May 29, 1928 and moved to Scotland at the age of two with her mother (Lavina Calis). They moved back to Winnipeg in 1948, along with her aunt Cissie (Sarah Thomson). Mom spent her younger years living in Selkirk, MB, where she worked at many stores and studied Psychiatric Nursing. She was a member of the military, carrying the rank of Staff Sargent when she retired to raise her family. Mom had a way with words and wrote many commercials for various radio stations in the city. Her passions were people and animals and later in life she started first as a volunteer and then as a staff person, at Klinic as a crisis line counsellor. She helped so many people during her life and she had accumulated a very large family from other mothers, as well as pets. Mom was a fan of many animal rescues on Facebook and loved to see how the rescued pets found new homes, some of them in her own house. She connected on Facebook with the Glasgow Guide organization and made / reconnected with many people. This helped her keep up to date with what was going on in her hometown. Mom will be missed by many, but not forgotten by any. As her granddaughter Jennifer put it, "you cannot lose someone that is so imbedded in your life." There will be a graveside service at Chapel Lawn on Portage Avenue West, on Friday, November 14 at 3:30 p.m. We will meet at the funeral home and walk to her gravesite together. The service will end at the cemetery and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Mom is being cremated, as per her wishes. If you wish to bring a single flower or memento to place on her grave please feel free to do so. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice. • Cindy and David. Saddened to hear of joyce's passing. Though I only knew her just a short while, it was pretty obvious What a good and generous woman she was. I know she helped many peoplein her life and pets held a special place in her heart. There is probably a lineup of cats waiting in heaven waiting to greet her. I’m grateful I had the chance to know her. She was one great lady. - Posted by: Guy Rochon (neighbourhood friend) on: Nov 14, 2014

  • What a lovely obituary notice. Joyce really did connect with so many people & animals during her long life. She will be missed & remembered by all of them. As our contact in recent years had been on the phone, I will especially miss her soothing voice, her wide range of interests & her courage in dealing with her many health issues. Rest in Peace, Joyce. Although I can no longer hear your voice on the phone, I can still hear it in my heart loud & clear. - Posted by: Shirley Brazer (Sister-in-law) on: Nov 12, 2014

  • Nothing more need be said, but I offer this abbreviated, variation on a poem by Joyce's beloved Robbie Burns: "When chill November's surly blast Made fields and forests bare, One ev'ning, as I wander'd forth Along the banks of Ayr, I spied a woman, whose aged step Seem'd weary, worn with care; Her face was furrow'd o'er with years, And hoary was her hair. O Death! the poor woman's dearest friend, The kindest and the best! Welcome the hour my aged limbs Are laid with thee at rest! The great, the wealthy fear thy blow From pomp and pleasure torn; But, oh! a blest relief for those That weary-laden mourn!" - Posted by: Gary () on: Nov 12, 2014

  • Our sympathy to you all and we will keep you in our prayers - Posted by: Grace Johnston and family (Friend) on: Nov 12, 2014

  • My condolences to your family Sherri. I remember going over to your place when we were in high school and your Mom always had a project going. She had an inspiring amount of energy and lived a very full life. - Posted by: Patty Bambrick (Schoolmate of Sherri Brazer) on: Nov 12, 2014
