ANNE KATHARINE SITTER May 11, 1922 - November 10, 2014 It is with great love and heavy hearts that we say farewell to a very special person, Anne Sitter. Anne was born in Ladywood, MB on May 11, 1922, to Caroline (nee Schreyer) and Sebastian Sitter. She was the third youngest in a family of nine children. She grew up on Machray Avenue in Winnipeg where she was a member of St. Joseph's Parish for many years. As a teenager Anne worked in the garment industry for several years and after upgrading her education, was employed by the Federal Government in the Supply and Service Department until her retirement. Following the death of her mother, Anne moved to the downtown area in Winnipeg where she especially enjoyed living at Place Louis Riel for over 25 years, making lasting friendships with both staff and residents. In retirement, Anne enjoyed the opportunity to travel to Europe, Atlantic Canada and the United States. She also looked forward to the senior gambling excursions to the casinos in the U.S.A. with her friends. Anne loved life and lived every day to the fullest; never missing an opportunity to give of herself to the people she loved. Anne had a ready smile, a quick laugh and an outgoing nature, which endeared her to all who knew and loved her. As Anne's health began to fail she moved to Cathedral Manor in St. Boniface where she enjoyed the peacefulness and solitude. Predeceased by her parents and siblings, John, Joe, George, Jack, Sister Mary Irene OSE, and infant sister, Anne is survived by her brothers Paul and Father Charles S.J., as well as many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews. The family extends their sincere appreciation to Ms. Rhonda Brown and staff at Cathedral Manor for all the support and care they have provided to Anne over the past several years, and to Dr. George Balko for his continuing care and support to Anne. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating Anne's life will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in Cathedral Manor Chapel, 321 avenue de la Cathédrale. • Anne Sitter was a charter member of the St. Mary's Cathedral Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. We remember her as a kind, generous and friendly person who eagerly participated in and supported the various activities of the League "for God and Canada." We extend our condolences to her family. • My dear great Auntie Anne was a woman ahead of her time. She was social, charitable and independent and was very kind and generous to all who crossed her threshold. She always had a little gift for you when you visited her. Even though arthritis took its toll, Anne loved to bowl and go over the border to go shopping and gambling with her friends. She was a tall woman for her generation and carried it well. She was a great example to two more generations of tall women in the family. - Posted by: Kim Diamond (Grand Nieice) on: Nov 16, 2014

  • I have many fond memories of my Great Aunt Anne. Most particularly, I remember her gentle but contagious laugh. When I was a teenager living in Winnipeg, she generously gave me her leather bowling shoes, which fit me so perfectly that they could have been custom made. I still have those shoes! She was a very loving and caring lady and I will remember her with love and admiration. - Posted by: Lisa Diamond Webb (Grand Niece) on: Nov 15, 2014

  • Anne was one of the nicest ladies I have ever had the pleasure of knowing..she was a warm, caring, and loving person. Her smile lit up the room. My deepest sympathies go out to her family at this difficult time. She will be missed. - Posted by: Louise Landry (Friend and neighbor) on: Nov 14, 2014
