FRED TKACH November 15, 1918 - November 13, 2014 A heart of gold stopped beating. It is with saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, grandpa, and great-grandpa on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Vista Park Lodge at the age of 96, less two days. He will be eternally missed by his daughter Olga (Manfred) Legiehn of Pinawa, and son Laurence (Suzanne) Tkach of Vancouver. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Stella in 2012. Although Dad is no longer with us, he is now with Mom, forever. Dad had a great love for his grandchildren and they will forever cherish the love he had for them: Dr. Gerald (Carmel) Legiehn, White Rock, BC; Kimberly (Allan) Hutchison, Winnipeg; Jude (Belinda) Tkach, Vancouver; and Beau Tkach, Vancouver. As endearing were his great-grandchildren Sierra and Tianna Hutchison; and Lauren, Owen and Olivia Legiehn. He leaves to mourn his passing sister-in-law Elizabeth Tkach and brother-in-law Mike (Stella) Galay, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Josephat and Melania Tkach, and brothers and sisters Pearl, Mike, Ann, Pete, Kate, William and John, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Dad's faith in God was exemplified by his caring ways. His legacy will be his compassion, sense of humour and his love of life. He touched the lives of many with his jovial nature and kind words, and so his genial personality will live on in those who knew him. He was always ready to entertain with stories whether it was days growing up, days on the job, or his Army days. Dad served with the Canadian Army Winnipeg Grenadiers from 1942-1945 and retired from the City of Winnipeg in 1983. In his younger days he enjoyed baseball as first baseman and was always a baseball and hockey enthusiast. He took great pride in his rose garden, RVing, loved family visits and entertaining friends. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., November 18, 2014 at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Street, Winnipeg, Mb with Rt. Rev. Canon W. Klimchuk officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Dad's pallbearers will be Gerald Legiehn, Kimberly Hutchison, Jude Tkach, Beau Tkach, Manfred Legiehn, William Tkach and Allan Hutchison. If you so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, or to a charity of ones choice. DAD: "Your passing is difficult to endure but you laid a strong legacy of love for your family that will enable us to carry on. We will miss you in so many ways; we will remember you in so many more. Our memories of you will be our treasure." www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
