Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMABLE RAMSAY February 23, 1922 - November 8, 2014 Grateful for her long and happy life, the family announces the peaceful passing of Mable Ramsay on Saturday November 8, 2014 at River Park Gardens. Left to cherish her memory are her eight children: Sherrill (Alf) Aylward, Bob (Kris), Russ (Iryna Shaposhnikova), Kathy (Larry) Matwee, Gerrie, Barbara, Janet (Clint) Goddard, and Bruce (Tanja Gerhardts); 19 grandchildren: Debbie, Carole, Brian, Heather, Nancy, Jan, Caroline, Matt, Adam, Jennifer, Mike, Shannon, Tim, Charlie, Emily, Sarah, Hannah, Anni, and Robson, as well as 16 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her much loved sister-in-law Gisele Ramsay, and brother and sister-in-law Ted and Stella Brisbin, and other family members. Mable was predeceased by her husband R. R. (Bud) Ramsay and her brother Bob Brisbin. Mable was born to be a mother and grandmother. Her patience, kindness, calm nature, and humor were her great strengths in raising a family of eight children. Mable was raised in St. Vital and was an accomplished speed skater and comptometer operator. Mable and Bud were married in 1941 and raised their family in St. Vital. The house was always full of family, friends, and food. We enjoyed great brunches and fabulous Sunday dinners - always a roast in the oven, Yorkshire pudding with gravy, and multiple pies a favourite for every person at the table. In her "spare" time Mable was a talented crafter. She delighted in creating many beautiful petit point and crewelwork pieces. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing her gifts of crafts and many have benefited from her quilts, sweaters, afghans, mittens, toques, scarves, and baby layette outfits. Bud and Mable enjoyed many years at their cottage in Sioux Narrows with family and friends. Right up to the end of her life Mable's sharp wit and amazing sense of humour carried her and those around her through even the most difficult times. In keeping with Mable's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. The family is very grateful for all the support given to Mable and us in the past year especially Bonnie Wainwright and the Home Care team, Rosewood House, Misericordia Interim Care, companions Susan and Dawn, and the very caring people at River Park Gardens. Mom was so happy to be back home in St. Vital. Her fondness of children led her to volunteer for over 20 years at St. Amant Centre. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in Mable's memory to St. Amant Centre Foundation, 440 River Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M 3Z9. She was often heard saying, "I have always loved children." The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

What a positive, bright, and gracious woman. Her sense of humour made our visits so much fun. I'll never forget making cookies with her on the seventh floor at The Misericordia. "Mabelle from St. Vital", thank you for the memories. Dawn - Posted by: Dawn Bathie (Caregiver) on: Nov 23, 2014

Although I have not seen Aunt Mable for many years, I will miss her and her sense of humour greatly. I remember the spot of ketchup (or maybe it was mustard)on the ceiling of the kitchen on Victoria Crescent that was a source of amusement for everyone in the family, including Aunt Mable. This would have been back in the early 60's. - Posted by: Kim Lentz (Niece) on: Nov 22, 2014

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Mable. The memories I have of her are her smile, humour and joy. During my trips to Winnipeg it was always delightful to share a meal with her and Mom during my visits to Sterling House and I missed her when she was no longer there. My sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Jacquie Darguzas (Neice) on: Nov 18, 2014

Although I only met your mom (and Gerry) while I was at The Mis visiting my mom, I was always amazed at her sense of humour! She was always smiling, always had a joke for me or a secret to whisper in my ear. What an incredible woman filled with joy. I knew I had met a "character"! How blessed you were to have her as your mom. You will have such wonderful memories that will bring a smile to your hearts. - Posted by: Linda Codville (Friend of Gerry) on: Nov 16, 2014

To all the Ramsay children: Your mum was amazing! I loved going over to your house to play. There was always lots of activity which fascinated me because there were so many people. As I recall although I remember seeing your mum in other rooms of the house it was mostly the kitchen I remember her in! She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Sidney Macaw (neighbour) on: Nov 15, 2014
