DANIEL WILFRED DONALDSON
Born: Feb 08, 1963
Date of Passing: Nov 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDANIEL WILFRED DONALDSON, CD February 8, 1963 - November 5, 2014 Born and raised in St. Boniface (Windsor Park), Dan is survived by his loving wife Nancy, cherished daughter Caitlin (Ward) Donaldson, and beloved stepdaughters Allie and Kelly (Bryan) McKinnon. Also, parents Wilf and Yvonne Donaldson, sister Jennifer Cabel, nieces Meaghan, Gillian, and nephew Ethan; parents-in-law Eileen and Jack Edge, and sister-in-law Cathy Edge. Dan was most proud of his 25 years of service to his country as an Air Force Firefighter where he had obtained a rank of Sargent. He loved the camaraderie and esprit de corps with all his brothers and sisters, and missed that dearly when he retired. He had enjoyed postings in Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, BC and 17 Wing Winnipeg, but Victoria, BC was his heaven on earth and he had planned to move back one day to enjoy the "terrible" winters there. He and Nancy treasured their winter trips to Puerto Vallarta, to lie on the beach and soak up the heat he so dearly loved. Dan prided himself on his fitness, was a dedicated gym visitor and participated in many sports through the years, including marathons throughout the country, especially enjoying his baseball days as a catcher. After retirement, Dan was employed at Pyrene Fire Security Manitoba and currently as a Project Manager for Fire Life Safety at Manitoba Housing. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Daniel's life will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, please donate by cheque, in memory of Dan to The Royal Canadian Legion, Dominion Command, 86 Aird Place, Kanata, ON K2L 0A1 (Please note as memo on the cheque "Poppy Fund Daniel W. Donaldson.") Dan, we will love and miss you forever. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

I've known Dan for my entire life, he was my brother's best Friend. The last time I saw him was at my brother's funeral in Jan 2014. I cannot express how sorry I am. I wish someone would've contacted me. Dan was an awesome human being, a true friend, loving father, and dedicated professional savior. Words cannot express.. Oh Caitlin I'm so sorry, Nancy we never met, but I can't imagine the pain. Please call your auntie Colleen Caitlin. Anytime Dan and I had a conversation, no matter what it was about, he was so well-informed about the topic. Work is not the same without his friendly smile and contagious laugh. RIP Dan. You are missed. - Posted by: Maria Fernandes (Co-worker) on: Dec 14, 2014

Wilf and Yvonne, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your son at such a young age. Parents weren't meant to bear that kind of burden. It's not natural. I remember Daniel well. He was just 4 or 5 when we worked together. Such a nice kid. Our condolences and prayers go out to you and Daniel's family. - Posted by: Denis and Lucille Robert (Friends of Wilf and Yvonne) on: Dec 08, 2014

Words cannot properly express the loss of someone we care for and love. Danny was my brother-in-law and friend. We shared in raising our children, celebrating birthdays and Christmas together. Danny's smile lit up a room and his laugh was contagious. His caring and empathy will be my most treasured memory. To both Nancy and Kim, I'm so sorry for your loss. As a father to your grandchildren, Wilf and Yvonne, my heart truly goes out to you both. Thank you my children for the love and support you're showing your mother, Caitlin and Nanny & Gramps. - Posted by: Rick Cabel (brother-in law and friend) on: Nov 20, 2014

Danny and I were trouble from the get go. We were only a few months apart in age. I think our parents moved to opposite sides of the city just so we couldn't be together all of the time. When we were, there was usually mischief of some sort. I always admired Dan's skill as an athlete and as we grew up, we faced off on the sports field or ice rink many times. I wished that I could have spent more time with him once he retuned to Manitoba, as I am sure we would have enjoyed some aspects of our sporting lives together. My condolences go out to all of his family and friends near and far. Gone but not forgotten. Fondly remembered forever. - Posted by: Scott Sylvester (Cousin) on: Nov 19, 2014

Mr and Mrs Donaldson, I'm so sorry for your loss...just a few words. We were aged around 10 or 11, and Danny was my BEST friend. We grew up together on Heather Rd and we both loved sports. I recall spending countless days and evenings playing road hockey in the winter with Danny - making goal posts out of ice blocks, and each taking turns to be Paul Henderson scoring Team Canada's winning goal! We both wore our Winakwa community club jackets proudly, and if I remember correctly, we were a dynamic duo on our floor hockey team at Howden elementary school. We battled against each other in little league baseball - and I believe his Bisons always beat my Braves! I lost touch with Danny as we entered our teen years, but I'm happy to know that he continued to keep sport and fitness an important part of his life. Looking back I count myself very lucky for having such a great pal. Thanks Danny. - Posted by: daryl krywonis (friend) on: Nov 17, 2014

Dan was a true friend especially to Will my partner. He supported his attempts to get fitter working out in the gym several times a week when he was still at 17 Wing. For me...when Will was away on long or short courses he always had words of encouragement and support. I miss our Starbucks rendezvous in Winnipeg with him, Nancy and Will after a working day. I so wish we had not been gone from Winnipeg. He truly was a gentleman. Never forgotten Dan. I can still hear your laughter. My thoughts and condolences go out to Nancy, Caitlin, his parents, Jennifer and extended family. Gone but never forgotten from our lives. - Posted by: Sue Bates (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2014

As soon as Dan joined our team at Manitoba Housing he jumped in to help anyone who asked. He was a great help to me on many occasions and always offered to help with further training with our on site staff. We are all going to miss your humour, your knowledge and expertise. Soar with the Eagles Dan. - Posted by: Andrea Hall (Co-worker) on: Nov 16, 2014
