JAMES URBAN PEARN James (Jim) Urban Pearn passed away on November 15, 2014 at the Grace Hospital. Jim was the only son of Minnie and Henry Pearn born on Brooklyn Street in St James on January 29, 1921. He received all his schooling in St. James and, at age 16, he apprenticed at the Winnipeg Flying Club. In 1941, he married Evelyn Cornwall. He spent his war years with the Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He then joined the army and spent two years in England and Holland. On returning to Canada, he was employed by the Federal Government, Ministry of Transport for 30 years. He rose to be the Superintendent of Aircraft Maintenance before retiring in 1976 after 30 years of service. His hobby was always antique cars and he purchased land in Headingley to pursue his hobby and obtained more cars and service station memorabilia. His collection grew rapidly and, in 2004, he donated it to the Municipality of Headingley and Jim's Vintage Garage Museum was built thanks to Reeve Wilf Taillieu and Dr. John Bock. Jim is predeceased by his sister Kathleen and his son Kenneth. He is survived by his daughters Lynn Hasell (Bob, four sons) and Patricia McClintock (Brian, two sons), grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his wife Vivienne and stepchildren. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Headingley Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 5335 Portage Avenue. Reception to follow. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Viv, we were so sorry to hear of your/our loss. Jim died on my birthday and I was in Texas so was not able to attend the funeral, much to my consternation. Jim was an upstanding man and a great friend and we will always remember the AACA parties you both hosted at your home. I much admired Jim for his abilities and resolve in undertaking difficult restorations, especially the Russell, and then sharing with us mere mortals some of his vast knowledge. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. And Viv, you will be in our hearts and prayers this coming Christmas. - Posted by: Denis and Lucille Robert (Friend) on: Dec 08, 2014

  • My parents shared many good times with the Pearns and we also met them and had a chance to see Jim's cars and garage. All the stories about their camping and friendship were wonderful. We are so sorry for your loss. Larry and Pat Cumming. - Posted by: Larry Cumming (My parents were good camping friends of the Pearns) on: Nov 18, 2014

  • Love and condolences God Bless - Posted by: Betty Burnell (Friend _ Parishioner) on: Nov 18, 2014

  • I first met Jim about 45 years ago. Over those many years he became like a second Dad to me. I admired his knowledge and dedication to the old car hobby and we helped each other with our cars and whatever other projects Jim could think up. I loved his crusty, but soft-hearted manner. We had some great times together, and Jim and Viv always treated me as one of the family. I'm thankful that I had Jim in my life for those many years. Rest in peace Jim, and know that I'll take good care of the '38 Dodge. To Viv, keep up your amazing strength and positive outlook. You are blessed to have had a great life with Jim, and I know that you will always have lots of friends and family who care deeply for you. - Posted by: Paul Horch (Long-time friend) on: Nov 18, 2014
