MERVIN LEONARD SIEMENS October 21, 1959 - November 13, 2014 On November 13, 2014, Merv passed away peacefully, with his family by this side, at the Mazankowski Heart Institute. Three days after his much anticipated heart transplant, complications prevented his expected recovery. Merv was born to Frank P. and Elsie Siemens of Rosenort, MB, on October 21, 1959. Merv married his high school sweetheart on May 1, 1982. Merv and Lori enjoyed seven years of wedded bliss together, including four months in Australia, before becoming proud parents of their daughter Tiffany Rose Marie on March 15, 1990, and son Jamie Scott on February 14, 1993. Merv lived an active life. He enjoyed working at Rosenort Motors as a diesel mechanic for thirty two years. When his health no longer allowed him to do heavy duty mechanics, he worked together with his brother-in-law John starting the Greensite shingle recycling company. Merv served on the Rosenort Fire Department for twenty years as a firefighter and fire chief. He was actively involved in his church, served on the Inner City Youth Alive board, and spent a few seasons as Jamie's hockey coach. Merv loved life! Snow and water skiing, barefooting, and playing hockey were some of the many activities he loved to do. Even though his abilities to do these things slowly started to deteriorate after his stroke in 2003, he continued to actively enjoy these pastimes as long as he possibly could. He then enjoyed them through the lives of his kids and nieces and nephews, watching them play hockey and pulling them behind the boat. He also loved woodworking, guns, Nascar, sitting by the fire, camping, bike trips with his buddies and so many other things. He has left behind Lori, his best friend and wife of 32 ½ years; his daughter Tiffany and her husband Michael, and his son Jamie; his two brothers, Randy and Les; three sisters, Doris, Louanna, Sandra and their families; and his faithful companion, Shadow. The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosenort Evangelical Mennonite Church. A private burial will be held before the funeral. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sharkey, G.P.; the excellent nurses and doctors at the Cardiac Care Unit and Pacemaker Clinic at the St. Boniface Hospital; the nurses and doctors at the Mazankowski Heart Institute, who tried everything they could to better Merv's life; and our family and friends who have loved and supported us through this journey. In Merv's memory, donations can be made to the Rosenort Fire Department towards a new Rescue Truck. Arrangements Entrusted to: Morris Funeral Home 204-746-2451
