HORACE EDMUND JAMES KIMBER February 24, 1923 November 15, 2014 A heart of gold stopped beating. It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather on November 15, 2014 at the age of 91. Horace was predeceased by his parents, John and Gertrude Kimber; sister Mary, brothers John, Clement, William and Ronald Kimber, sister-in-law Ivy Kimber, brother-in-law Sam Stock; son Wayne Kimber, stepson Doug Youngson and son-in-law Dixy Renouf. He is survived by his sister Beatrice Stock, brother Harry (Ida) Kimber, sisters-in-law Inez, Barbara and Dolly Kimber; children Joan (Bernie) Howland, David Kimber, Jeanie Renouf and their mother Jean Sargent, daughters-in-law Fran Kimber and Kathy Youngson; grandchildren Danny, Kyle, Dustin, Amber, Cora (Jon), Charlie, Nicky, Dawnya, Isiah and Aidan; great-granddaughter Carmela; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dad was born in Tompkins, Saskatchewan, and spent his early days helping his family operate their large sheep ranch. At the age of 20 he courageously enlisted and spent two years overseas with the Royal Regina Rifles defending his country in the Second World War; serving in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was injured in Holland, and was hospitalized in France. After the war ended, Dad returned to his home for a year and then moved to central Alberta near Youngstown, where he purchased his own ranch and initially raised sheep, and later cattle and horses. He ranched in Alberta for 25 years while raising his family. In 1972 Dad moved with his family to the Lundar, Manitoba area where he lived for 40 years pursuing his love of horses. In our estimation, Dad broke over 500 horses in his lifetime. Horses were the common denominator that caused the name of Horace Kimber to be widely recognized and highly respected. He was also a long-time member of the Legion and the Riding & Roping Club, and received an award for the countless hours he volunteered. Dad was a warm, quiet guy with a witty sense of humour. His faith in God was a private and steady presence throughout his life. He was a very practical man, full of wisdom and integrity; and was always helpful and generous. He loved his children and his grandchildren very much and left them with hundreds of happy memories of hay rides, bonfires, hockey games and family get-togethers. His biggest joy was when his children and grandchildren came out for the weekend they knew there was always fun to be had on Grampa's farm. Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lundar Legion in Lundar, Manitoba. Interment will be at the Deerhorn Legion and Pastor Bill Watson will be officiating. Dad, you will be forever missed .. until we meet again. FISHER FUNERAL HOME INC. In care of arrangements. Fisher Branch, MB 204-372-6271 or 204-372-6803

  • I remember being in awe of Mr. Kimber... seeing him in late 60 years, jumping up bareback on a thoroughbred to leg it out. It seemed he could look at a horse and size up what it was capable of. Our sympathy. - Posted by: Sandy & Stuart Hallam (nee Taplin) () on: Nov 22, 2014

  • Enjoyed many fun times at Uncle Kim's and Jean's farm near Youngstown playing with Joan, David and Jeannie. There was always some horses we were told not to go near. My brother Allan, his wife Laurel and I went to visit Uncle Kim, David, Joan and Jeannie and their families in August of this year and we enjoyed this time spent with all of them. - Posted by: arline waller (Niece) on: Nov 19, 2014

  • My sincere thoughts and prayers to all the family. Horace was a remarkable person - he had such a kind and witty nature. He was like extended family to all of us.
