MARILYN JACKSON R.N. September 18, 1941 - November 17, 2014 Marilyn passed away peacefully, in the company of close friends. She was the only child of Arthur and Dorothy Jackson. She grew up in St. James ,and in later years had the distinction of being the longest living person on Amherst Street having lived there for 57 years. In 1962, Marilyn graduated from the Winnipeg Children's Hospital. After six months of training, she was given the Most Promising Student award, and at graduation was presented with the Bedside Nursing Award. Marilyn worked at Children's her entire career, except for one year, when she went to live in England. During the hiatus from work, Marilyn and lifelong friend Kay Hemsley toured England, Wales, Scotland and Spain. In 1990, Marilyn fractured her hip causing a forced retirement. Never one to be idle, Marilyn knitted for friends as well as for their children and grandchildren. Many babies have received her beautiful work. She also took many courses and became more involved in the Anglican Church. Through the church, she found a whole new life and developed a passion for theological learning. Marilyn devoted many years to working with the Anglican Church. She was involved with the Rupertsland News, Alter Guild, supported Central Buganda Orphan Project, was involved with countless Bible Studies and volunteered to assist with Worship at Care Homes. Marilyn and Kay loved to travel. There were more trips to England, vacations to warm countries as well as trips throughout Canada and the USA. Kay predeceased Marilyn in 2004. Kay's beloved toy poodle, Kyrie, gave Marilyn much comfort and companionship following Kay's death, and also during Marilyn's own 18 month illness. Marilyn loved visiting Craft Sales, Market gardeners, going for car rides in the country, arranging dinner with friends, and picking out different plants for her spring pots. She loved nature and would have loved to have owned a cottage. She enjoyed going to Sioux Narrows. Marilyn's many friends would like to thank Dr. Houston and Barb at CancerCare, and the staff at Victoria Hospital for the compassionate care Marilyn received. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Avenue.
