Date of Passing: Nov 12, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER KUSHNIRYK We regret to announce the passing of our father, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Walter Kushniryk, Walt, Wally or Lauduk as he was often called was 81 years old. He was predeceased by his mother and father Elana and Michael of Swan River, his son Edward J. Kushniryk and his brothers and sisters - John, Harry, Bill, Steve, Nick, Alex, Mary, Nelly, Jenny, Nettie and Helen. He will be lovingly remembered by his surviving sisters Ann, Shirley and Olga. He will be greatly missed by his surviving children, Des (Sherry Kushniryk), Don (Tracy Kushniryk), Alanna (Larry Schultz), grandchildren Aaron (Crystal), Kim, Ty (Marissa), Sereen (Travis) and great- grandchildren Isis, Gina and Ace. Walter had many nieces and nephews and loved them all. Born and raised in the Swan River area he eventually moved to southern Manitoba. Dad served proudly with the Black Watch regiment during the Korean conflict. He was married and raised a family in the Portage la Prairie area. He eventually moved to Winnipeg and settled into a career with Abesco Steel. He was extremely proud of the red steel structures the company had built. Every time he passed one he never failed to point out "we put the steel in that building", he truly loved the company and the people he worked with. He loved camping and fishing which he did for many years with his children all over the province of Manitoba. He had a keen eye to find the morel mushrooms he so loved to eat. He was always willing to play a game of cards anytime, anywhere. He truly enjoyed the simple things in life, he will be greatly missed. The family will have a celebration of life and interment service in Swan River May 16, 2015. We'd like to thank McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel in Portage La Prairie for all of their kindness and sympathetic services. A special thank you to resident Bob Ryback and to all the residents of St. Josephs Apartment building for making out father's home a good place to be...
