MARY KOWAL (ROZAK) September 9, 1921 - November 10, 2014 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our sister, aunt and friend, Mary Kowal on November 10, 2014 at the Holy Family Nursing Home at the age of 93. Mary passed with grace and dignity after years of courageously battling dementia. Despite her illness Mary greeted all visitors with a smile and laughter and loved being a part of the music and celebrations at Holy Family Nursing Home. Her mobility was extremely limited and she faced numerous challenges in her final years but Mary remained happy, patient and brave. Mary was the eldest daughter of six children born to John and Annie (Elchyshyn) on the family farm in the Hamrlik district east of Poplarfield. She grew up on the Rozak homestead but the family farm was only the first step in her dream to explore the country. She married Charles Kowal in 1951 and that led to a new life in British Columbia where together they were able to enjoy the beauty of the country travelling with CP and making new friends and cherished memories. Mary was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1988, (father) John in 1968, (mother) Annie in 1996, (brother) Peter Rozak (sister) Olga Makowsky, (brothers-in-law) Walter Winnicky, Peter Kulbaba, Mike Makowsky, (sister-in-law) Lena Rozak, (nephews) Rick Winnicky and Darrell Hrehoruk. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, (brother) Walter Rozak, (sisters) Antonia Kulbaba, Katherine (Peter) Hrehoruk and (sister-in-law) Stella Rozak, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the devoted and caring staff at Holy Family Nursing Home, St. Francis Ward for the exceptional care and endless support. Our deepest appreciation and gratitude goes to Dr. Terry Babick and Dr. Andrea Babick for their dedication and care. A private family funeral service was held at the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel, Father Harry Chuckry officiating. Interment followed at Hamrlik Cemetery. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers are, Gary and Bev Rozak, Kelley and Rick Turnbull, Karen and Rick Litke, Dennis and Linda Kulbaba, Gerald and Darlene Kulbaba, Linda and Rick Ropchan, Stuart Hrehoruk, Terry Winnicky as well as all great nieces and nephews. Rest in peace, dear sister and aunt. We love you, we miss you. Donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9.
