WILLIAM NICKOLAS CHRISTIE Surrounded by his loving family, Bill passed away peacefully on November 21 at the age of 84, after a brief illness. He was a great man; a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend and the honorary neighbourhood watch. Bill grew up in the North End of Winnipeg where he attended St. John's High School and was involved with hockey. He spent many years at Schumacher Mackenzie and then Public Press as an accountant. He was very privileged to become the Business Manager for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he was able to experience the joy and excitement of being a member of a Grey Cup winning team, twice. This was a dream job, as Bill had always been a dedicated fan of the Bombers. For 60 years, Barbershop was a large part of Bill's life as a member of the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen. Here he made many lifelong friends and shared the love of Barbershop music. Bill also enjoyed reading his aged Reader's Digests, golfing with friends and was always on the quest of finding the best "honeysuckle" donut. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley, his son Robert (Alexandra), daughter Sherri (Trevor), and his five grandchildren Keaton, Thomas, Katherine, Nicholas and Elizabeth. He leaves his sister Elsie and sister-in-law Marge. Bill was predeceased by his nephew, George and most recently, his half-a-beer friend, Don. His four-legged companions, Duffy and Brandy x 2 will also be waiting for him. Thank you to the amazing ICU staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, especially Linda, Monica, Danielle, Jennifer, Dr. Garland, Dr. Bell, Dr. E. and everyone who came into contact with Bill. Every one of you treated my Dad with comfort and kindness and guided us as a family through this difficult time. If friends so desire, contributions in memory of Bill may be made to SingCanadaHarmony.ca or any charity of choice. He was a man of many traits, but some stand out more than others. Such as his frugality, even on his wedding day he was being teased about still having his first dime, which he probably still has!!! Stick-to-itiveness, if Bill set his mind on something, it generally got done. Spontaneous, it wasn't unusual for him to up and take the kids for a burger and fries or to the horse races. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I have known Bill for as long as I can remember, being the daughter of a life-long Barbershopper & Sweet Adeline, so there are a "few" years of memories at shows, practices when I got to tag along, golf tourneys in Lancaster, conventions, and more recently Beer and Steak nights at the Legion. He always had a funny joke to share or a great story. Bill's enthusiasm in music and family was always forefront. He will be missed. Keep a song in your heart! Thinking of you Shirley, Rob and Sherry and families. Our sincerest condolences, Tracy and Paul. - Posted by: Tracy and Paul Lapointe (Friend in Music) on: Nov 26, 2014

  • I had the great pleasure of working with Bill back when Cal was with the Bombers. Will remember him fondly. Bob Sokalski - Posted by: Bob Sokalski (friend) on: Nov 26, 2014

  • Bill and I had many chats over the fence and in the front yard every year. I always enjoyed the friendship and our chats about the Bombers and his love of gardening and yard work...and my lack of same. 2 of our grandkids lived with us for quite some time and also got to know Bill, (Mr Christie to them) very well. They really enjoyed talking to him and he took great obvious delight in sharing lots of time with them. Lots of good memories. He'll also be missed by my wife Brendene and the 2 grandkids Abby and Wyatt. - Posted by: Brian Barkley (next door neighbour for 25 years) on: Nov 26, 2014

  • We remember the Blue Bomber home games when Bill use to let the two of us sort of sneak into the Bomber Office before the game to use the washroom or get fresh coffee from the staff room while we volunteered at the booster events. He was an all round great guy. Will miss talking to him at the Barbershop concert. Rest in peace. - Posted by: MYRNA & FRAN (FELLOW BOMBER FANS) on: Nov 25, 2014

  • So sorry to learn of your loss, Shirley. Those days of our association with you and Bill and the Blue Bombers were pretty special and hold many fond memories. Our sincere condolences from Joyce (Cal) Murphy and family. - Posted by: Joyce Murphy (friend) on: Nov 25, 2014

  • Bill was a great guy with a devilish sense of humour. I enjoyed playing golf with him. Bill was a devoted family man who had tremendous love and respect for his wife and children. He was so proud of you. My sincerest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Gerry Sande (friend) on: Nov 25, 2014

  • We were so saddened to hear about Bill, but also glad we had a visit so recently. I'll miss Bill calling out to me when I visit across the street. Laureen, Ranjit & Rishi - Posted by: Laureen & Ranjit & Rishi Singh (Friends ) on: Nov 24, 2014

  • Knew Bill for over 30 years through Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen. He was always willing to share his Barbershop experience and offer his financial advice. His humorous rendering of The annual Past President's Financial report will long be remembered. Our condolences to Shirley and the family. • We are both sorry to hear of Bill's passing. My dad and Norma (his partner) knew Bill through my dad's association with the Winnipeg Football Club. We have fond memories of time spent cheering for the Bombers in the Blue and Gold room and at Grey Cups. My dad thought very highly of Bill. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Christa Dubesky and Norma Long (Bill Dubesky's daughter and partner -- Winnipeg Football club) on: Nov 24, 2014

  • I knew Bill many years ago when I began singing barbershop harmony with the Winnipeg Chapter. That was long ago but I remember him as being a good man. - Posted by: Randy Peters (Friend in Music) on: Nov 24, 2014

  • He will be deeply missed at Barbershop events, as well as our Rib night get togethers with the gang @ 215 and the Norwood! Our deepest sympathies to Shirley and family. Friends - Ray Dorey and Donna Berzuk - Posted by: Ray Dorey/Donna Berzuk (Barbershop friends) on: Nov 24, 2014
