SHERYL JANET FELLER It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sheryl Janet Feller (nee Nichols) on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Sheryl is survived by her husband of 40 years, Barry, son Jamie (Ashley), daughter Lindsay (Brett), and grandchildren Alexis, Tabitha and Marshal. She was predeceased by her parents George and Olga Nichols. Sheryl was born in Winnipeg in 1950 and grew up on a farm north of Sanford where she began her life-long passion with horses. She attended Sanford Collegiate as well as the University of Manitoba where she attained a diploma in Dental Hygiene, Bachelor of Arts and a MBA. Following her MBA, Sheryl started a management consulting practice which she continued to this day. Over the past several decades Sheryl served a wide variety of clients from major corporations to small non-profit groups. Always willing to accommodate client needs and ensuring the highest level of service and results. She was a Certified Management Consultant, a Fellow Certified Management Consultant and was recently awarded life member status in the Institute of Certified Management Consultants. Early this year Sheryl was also recognized as an Alumni of Distinction from the University of Manitoba, School of Dental Hygiene. As well, she became an Equine Canada Level 3 Certified Horsemanship Association Instructor. Sheryl was currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba and was the first woman in 130 years elected to the Board of the Portage Mutual Insurance Company. She was a past Chair of the Board of Governors for Red River College and President of Sanford Credit Union. Notwithstanding Sheryl's successful business career, her primary passion remained with horses. She trained and studied horseback riding endlessly and competed in both English and Western events over her many years in the saddle. Her children became accomplished riders and were a major source of pride. Sheryl established Bluebear Farms in 2002 where she began to teach riding lessons as well as working with family horses. She took great pride in seeing riders progress and be able to move to higher competitive levels or just becoming better riders. Many hours were spent at local horse shows watching, coaching and encouraging Jamie and Lindsay in their equestrian events as well as lesson students. In recognition of her teaching skills Sheryl was recipient of the Manitoba Horse Council 2014 Coach of the Year award. Sheryl was one of the most engaging and positive people you would ever meet with tremendous energy and passion for life, family, horses and dogs. She was able to travel extensively and one might say she enjoyed a glass (or two) of fine wine! The family would like to thank members of the Oak Bluff Ambulance Service, Victoria and Health Sciences Centre Hospital ER staff as well as the staff at the SICU at Health Sciences Centre for their response and care for Sheryl. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 1, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at Assiniboia Downs, 3975 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sheryl's name to the Canadian Diabetes Society.

  • I am speechless at this tragic loss. I have known Sheryl since the early '70s as we attended the same horse shows and horse club meetings. Later on, our children showed and participated in 4-H together. Everything has already been said about her and not a word of it is exaggerated. She truly was a gem of a person. Barry, Jamie, and Lindsay my thoughts and prayers are with you. Sheryl, my wish for you now, is a good horse between your knees, high fences to jump, and sunny days to do in. - Posted by: Janice Laing (Equestrian Friend) on: Dec 02, 2014

  • I mentioned to Sheryl years ago that I aspired to be like her...a professional, astute, gracious, wise, tolerant, modest, gentle, funny and kind (to name a few attributes)...a woman so proud of her husband and children, the core of her being. I cannot imagine your pain at losing her and my heart goes out to you. She will always be with you, and she has made an indelible mark on all our histories. Sending you love and comfort, Lorna Smith - Posted by: Lorna Smith (Business Associate) on: Dec 01, 2014

  • I met Sheryl many years ago when I first started at Great West Life. She made a lasting impression on me, always the professional, always a big smile on your face and never too busy to just say hello. I've never forgotten her patience working with a "green" 19-year-old kid. You were awesome. My thoughts and prayers go out to Barry, Jamie and Lindsay. - Posted by: Martha Corbin (Friend) on: Dec 01, 2014

  • You were the embodiment of all that is good and kind in this world and it was an honor and a privilege to call you friend. I was fortunate to know you – albeit in a small way - on a one to one level. Conversation was always lively and varied. We covered the realm – from personal to business to the mundane – and it was all good. We even gossiped some – but never a malicious or unkind word was uttered. How dull but how refreshing! You were so well respected, welcomed and welcoming in your many diverse communities. It ceased to be a surprise to me when someone I knew from a very different community knew you. And it happened more times than I can count. Your absence will be felt by so many. You will continue to be an example to us all. Your priorities in life were obvious to all – you were so devoted to your family. I will continue to think of you daily – as I did already as you were inspiration to me. Your kindness, humbleness, compassion and clarity of soul made me just want to be around you. And I know I was not alone. Continue to guide us Sheryl. You will be missed my friend. Much Love to the Feller Family. You are being held in the hearts of so many. - Posted by: Meg Gray (Friend) on: Dec 01, 2014

  • I met Sheryl upon moving to Winnipeg at 16, emotionally fragile from a bitter divorce between my parents and me getting a new start with my Aunt and Uncle in a new Province so that I could continue my schooling. Choosing Westgates as a place to lease a horse was the best decision I made that year in 1994 as that's where Sheryl and I met. Her positive outlook on life and in depth horse knowledge left a lasting impact on me to always seek the best, often quietly but surely. When I went into the agricultural business world and later became a business owner myself she was often there to lend a word or advice on how to negotiate the sometimes turbulent waters of meetings or debates. Thank you Sheryl for sharing advice that built confidence and hope. We are all Truly blessed to have known you, and may God grant you and your family peace - Posted by: Heather Ritzema (Equestrian friend ) on: Dec 01, 2014

  • I am saddened and shocked. Sheryl was one of the most energetic and kind people. She was always cheerful and had a wonderful smile. She was a gold medalist not only in her MBA program but also in the way she lived her life, always giving, caring and thinking of others. - Posted by: Usha Mittoo (MBA Classmate) on: Nov 30, 2014

  • Recently dental hygiene colleagues and I had the great honour of nominating and presenting to Sheryl the 2014 U of M School of Dental Hygiene Alumni of Distinction Award. Her professional and equestrian accomplishments were so very many, she was so very worthy, and yet, so very humble. How she lived her life is what made her so special - as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague. Those of us who had the opportunity to have her in our lives were enriched. Sheryl, we will all miss you! - Posted by: Mickey Wener (dental hygiene colleague and friend) on: Nov 30, 2014

  • Sheryl was such a special person that no one could truly adequately capture her essence in words. So many adjectives come to mind: happy, intelligent, caring, giving, helpful, adventuresome, organized... simply wonderful. Sheryl was so many things to so many people: loving wife, loving Mom and Grandmother, educator, administrator, friend, colleague. Sheryl's passing leaves a giant hole in the lives of all who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with Barry, Jamie and Lindsey and the grandchildren. The greatest blessing was the privilege of having known Sheryl. - Posted by: Jill Gehrig (Friend) on: Nov 30, 2014

  • Barry, Jamie & Lindsay, I was saddened to hear of the passing of my childhood friend.I have many fond memories of the farm in Sanford and the many weekends I spent there, milking cows, riding ponies and just plain farm fun for a little girl from the city. I will hold these memories forever in my heart. Rest in peace dear friend, until we meet again, love Heather - Posted by: Heather(Walker) Mackereth (childhood friend) on: Nov 30, 2014

  • How does one possibly describe this incredible woman? Beautiful in the true sense of the word - both inside and out! Infectiously positive and encouraging, educated, intelligent, sharing, supportive, inquisitive, talented - there are so many adjectives that could be used to try and encompass "Sheryl" but they would all fall short of describing everything she was. Sheryl was an Equine Canada English Instructor and Learning Facilitator. She is the only candidate I know that scored 100% in all 6 of her Rider 1-6 Written Exams! After completing her exams, she handed in a list of all the corrections required in the Rider Manuals for accuracy and spelling corrections! That was quickly followed by suggested alternate Written Tests for each Rider Level that she intended to use to educate her students. The attention to detail, the striving for excellence, the willingness to share the efforts of her hard work, the warm empathetic manner and her absolute love for her students made Sheryl truly unique. The students I recommended to Sheryl absolutely adored her. She will be missed by everyone who ever met her, experienced her "mothering", took lessons from her or benefited from her philanthropic efforts. Sheryl is an example we should all strive to emulate. Thank you, Sheryl, for your generous spirit. Go for it girl - Hickstead is within your reach! - Posted by: Betty-Ann McPhedran (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • My favorite instructor in Dental Hygiene. She was a wonderful person that I always look up to. A kind and patient teacher. - Posted by: Sandra lemoine (student) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • I met Sheryl long ago when I was just a kid. I was just getting into horses and my uncle found Bluebear farms. We went out there quite a few times and she would let me ride her horse, Otis. Sheryl is the reason why I got into horses, and I will always remember her for that. She was always such a nice woman, and her family is in my thoughts at this difficult time. - Posted by: Melissa () on: Nov 29, 2014

  • I was fortunate to come to know Sheryl from training sessions she ran at MPI, probably 20 years ago. She was a wonderful speaker and a warm and compassionate human being. Her untimely passing is very sad. - Posted by: Bill Coe (Business) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • Over the past 40 years Sheryl and I over the past 40 years have always keep in touch at Christmas time. She never missed a Christmas. She would send me pictures and a lovely letter telling me how her family was doing and all their accomplishments during the year. She was very proud of her two children. What a role model she was to her family. I am going to miss that letter from her. My sincere condolences to her husband Barry, son Jamie and daughter Lindsay. - Posted by: Carol Allinson (Senebald) (Friend over many years) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • I guess this would be a tribute to the kindness that Sheryl shared among other riders. She did not care that you were not her student or if you didn't ride at her barn. If you needed a word of encouragement she was there. One time after a particularly, in my head, bad round she saw me crying and came to talk to me, as a friend would talk to a friend. She encouraged me, made me smile and I went on to finish my show in the Red's. She was a special lady always a smile and I will miss her greatly at all the show's. Hugs to her family you are ALL in my heart. I am proud and honoured to have known Sheryl. - Posted by: Melissa Donald (FRIEND and FELLOW EQUESTRIAN) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • Sheryl's passing has left a huge hole in my heart. I enjoyed her very much as a friend however more than anything I respected her as a horse women. Her love for horse and rider is legendary. So many students are where they are because of her knowledge and teaching. I first got to know Sheryl on a personal level when I was the MC for Jamie and Ashly's wedding...what class! She must have just loved the brand new Grandbaby Ash recently delivered. I'm glad they got to meet. Sheryl leaving us is a massive tragedy. However I am so grateful and blessed that she came into my life. Thank you Sheryl! - Posted by: Diamond Doug Keith (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • I was fortunate to have a lesson with Sheryl on November 24th at the barn where I reside. Sheryl had enthusiastically agreed to include the resident boarders in the lessons with her own clients. Sheryl readily remembered my horse and I from other shows although we had never talked much. I came out of this afternoon thinking how nice and positive she was. She made the lesson fun, no stress. Just from that short encounter, I truly thought that she was a special person and that her clients were very fortunate to ride with her. It has been said many times, but heaven has truly gained a very special angel. My condolences to the Feller family. - Posted by: Helene Savard (fellow equestrian) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • I am so saddened to read of Sheryl's passing. The world has lost a wonderful person. I first met Sheryl in the 80's when she invited me to speak at her U of W class. After that we kept connected over the years as I would hire her to deliver services for companies I worked for and she would refer organizations to me for the type of work I do. Sheryl was the type of person you like to deal with - people first and business second. This lovely, upbeat, genuine person has left a mark on many people and businesses in Winnipeg and beyond. I will miss her. My sincerest condolences to the family. - Posted by: Eileen Kirton (Business Associate and Friend) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • My heart is breaking at the loss of this wonderful woman and friend of mine. So many things can be said about her and her life, she is so accomplished and was so special. I will always remember her infectious smile. Sheryl was the smartest person I ever knew, but she couldn't get the simplest joke without an explanation. She loved her wine and food and I smile fondly thinking of her ability to 'hoover' plate after plate of food and still look fantastic. She loved her life, her children/grand kids and Barry, especially. I am thankful for the fond memories I have of her. The world has lost a special person. - Posted by: Donna Pascal (a long time friend) on: Nov 29, 2014
