JOANNA BACHENHEIMER ALTNER Peacefully and in the company of her loving family, Joan Bachenheimer Altner, 94, passed away on November 27, 2014 at her home in Boca Raton, Florida. She was a wonderful and gracious lady with a warm heart and a beautiful smile. She was devoted to all of her family. Joan was married for 59 years to her adoring husband Joe, a story that is now complete in their reunion in spirit. Joan was born on September 17, 1920, in Wetter, Germany as the first child of Rosa and Moritz Bachenheimer. She was sent to the United States in 1937 on one of the last ships allowed to sail. Her family was lost to the Holocaust and she became the sole survivor, which haunted her entire life. Joan is survived by her children: Sandra Altner of Winnipeg, MB, Bruce Altner (Patty), Bob Altner (Sandi), and Daphne Altner Buckley her grandchildren: Rachel Altner (Matt Graham), Michael Altner, and Katiana Krawchenko, as well as grandniece Monica Buckley, great-grandnephew, Sammy Toporovsky, and her nephew Manual Gottlieb (Karen Boxer). Joan lived a full and happy life and was much loved by all who knew her. We are very grateful that she has been a part of our lives and will miss her terribly.
