RONALD WAYNE CARTHER Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, we sadly announce the passing of Ronald Wayne Carther, on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at his home, in Winnipeg, at the age of 68 years, with his best friend and partner Shelley James and daughter Tricia Hoffman by his side. Ron is survived by Shelley; his father, Reginald Carther of Winnipeg; daughter, Tricia (Carther) Hoffman of Morden; granddaughters, Nicole and Riana; brothers Barry (Lorraine) Carther of Edmonton, Warren Carther of Winnipeg; nephews Garrett and his two sons Brogan and Rhys of Edmonton, Christopher and Reggie; as well as niece, Chantell of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his mother, Freda (Plato) Carther and Shelley's two sons, Gary and Darren. On September 16, 1946 Ron was born in Winnipeg to Reginald and Freda Carther. He loved spending his summers at Grand Beach with his family in his youth. Ron attended Grant Park High School and Red River College, where he received his electrical degree. Ron was a hard working self-employed electrician, always willing to help others. He loved his dog Hershey and visiting with the neighbours down the block. Ron had a passion for model trains and had a fantastic layout, in his attic spending his free time working and enjoying it. Ron was a movie buff and had a large collection of DVDs. On Wednesday, November 26, 2014, a memorial was held for close family and friends at Warren's studio. Interment will take place at a later date. A heartfelt thank you to CancerCare Oncologist, Dr. Benerji; family doctor, Dr. McQuarrie; palliative care nurse, Alma and Miguel from home care who made it possible for Ron's wish to remain at home. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I had the honour of knowing Ron for about 10 years. I was the manager of Elmwood Hobby Works where we specialized in model railroading. Ron would come in at least once a week, with his water bottle in hand, and always ask what's new. Especially if it had anything to do with Canadian National Railways. I remember the first time I saw his little empire up in his attic. I was in aw. No wonder he spent so much time there. He was a first class electrician and was always there when I had a question for him or needed work done. But most important he was a first class person and I will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Chuck Huard (Friend and fellow model railroader.) on: Nov 30, 2014

  • Knew Ron from school and the neighborhood where we grew up, he was a great guy, and we always enjoyed his company, both in class, and after school - Posted by: Brian Klym (class mate) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • Shelley so sorry about Ron's passing he was a very good person and is in a better place he will be missed take care of yourself stay strong may he rest in peace glad I seen him at Walmart a few months ago run into you soon - Posted by: Parris (Friend) on: Nov 29, 2014

  • I grew up with Ron as he and my brother, Rob, were 'brothers in trouble' and he was a constant in our household for many years. Although I hadn't seen him for several years, he will always remain in our memories as a gentle, crazy, funny character. Condolences to the family. RIP Ron. - Posted by: Jill Bright (Family Friend ) on: Nov 29, 2014
