HELEN FERN COLLETT (nee PASEZNIK) With much love and regret we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Fern Collett (nee Paseznik) on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 87. She is survived by her sons David and Mark, her daughters-in-law Wilma and Jackie, her grandsons Rob, Graeme, Eric, and Ian, and her sister Rose, and was predeceased by John (Jack), her husband of nearly 49 years, her sisters Ann, Claudia, and Nell, and her brother Joseph (Joe). Born on May 30, 1927 in Kenora, Ontario, Helen moved to Toronto to help her sister in her small business. It is there after the war that she met and married her husband Jack in 1948. For the first years of their lives together they moved between Winnipeg and Toronto before settling in Winnipeg in the early 1960s where they raised their sons and watched their grandsons grow. Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother, an avid golfer, curler, and bridge player, and an organizer of golf tournaments, curling bonspiels, and other events as a member of the Wildewood Club for over 20 years. In later years she enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with Jack and her brother Joe, then later spending winters in Victoria visiting with her sister Nell. The family wants to thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre Units AB2 and CD3 for giving her a safe, caring, and comfortable home for her final years and making her comfortable in her final days. Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, on Wednesday, December 3, at 3:30 p.m. Reception to follow in the Thomas Sill Auditorium at Riverview. Instead of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Riverview Health Centre Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

  • Grandma, Anchor to our family, we will always cherish the joy and loving memories you brought to all of our lives. The importance of family was instilled in us through your love and especially your wonderful cooking around the Holidays. I will always remember my sleepovers, where you would make me hot dogs and mac n cheese while renting Godzilla movies for my viewing. We are grateful you are finally resting peacefully with Grandpa. Your legacy of love and laughter will live on through us. God Bless, Robin Collett. - Posted by: Robin Collett (Grandson) on: Dec 01, 2014
