JOSEPH RECHIK 1923 - 2014 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph Rechik, aged 91 years, of Arborg, Manitoba on Friday, November 28, 2014 surrounded by his family, at the Arborg Hospital. Joseph will be greatly missed by his wife Elsie, son Joe (Janet), his grandchildren Ashley (Myles), Kurtis, Tayler (Drew), Savannah and his great-grandson, Declan, as well, his siblings, Peter Rechik, Francis (Metro) Bodykewich, Roy (Pauline) Rechik, sister-in-law Rose (Al) Roberecki, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joe was born on February 18, 1923 in Okno and grew up on the family farm. When not on the family farm, he went off to bush camps during the winters, spending time in Ontario before he met and married Elsie Klym in 1948. Joe then went on to become a lifelong farmer in the Ledwyn area taking great pride in his fields and his crops. Joe loved a good auction sale and could often be found wheeling and dealing. His son and grandchildren were his greatest love and joy and Joe could often be found on the tractor or the combine, driving the grandchildren around and teaching them the value of hardwork. In 2000 Joe and Elsie moved from the farm to town and most mornings Joe would be having his morning coffee in Arborg at one of the local coffee shops. When he was at home he would spend his time tinkering in his garage, fixing lawn mowers, and visiting with whomever would stop by. One of Joe's favourite pastimes was cruising the countryside, checking on the crops. Most recently, Joe was blessed with the birth of his great-grandson, Declan who managed to make him smile even while he was going through his illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Arborg Christian Fellowship Church. Interment at Bjarmi Cemetery to follow. The family would like to thank Dr. Ishtak and his colleagues as well as the wonderful nursing staff at the Arborg Hospital who took such great care of Joe during his time with them. If anyone so desires, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My sincere condolences go out to Elsie Joe and family. I Loved Joe from the time I was a little girl. We often visited him & Elsie at the farm. When my mother passed away Joe & Elsie took me to their farm to stay for awhile. The love they shared will never be forgotten. As we grew older we still visited. The good food was one thing but allowing us to just play was enormous. They had a tickle trunk full of dress up clothes...we all loved to dress up. Joe would come to Ontario to pick blueberries and always had a story to tell. My last couple of visits with Joe & Elsie...Joe would reminisce about good times spend with my mom & dad many years ago when they first started dating. When he talked he smiled & his eyes sparkled. I WILL MISS HIM DEARLY. - Posted by: Loretta Bilous (family friend) on: Dec 02, 2014
