BERTA SCHON (nee BLUMHAGEN) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Berta on December 1, 2014 with her family by her side. She will be lovingly missed by her children Edmund (Elizabeth), William (Carmen), Ingrid (Jim), Richard (Jeannette), Monica, and sister-in-law Gertrude who spent lots of time visiting and helping care for her. She was also a loving Oma to 10 grandchildren Chris, Michelle, Bonnie, Tiffany, Clayton, Janelle, Nicholas, Adam, Travis and Dustin, and three great-grandchildren Noah, Max and Miley. She was born on August 5, 1926 in Romania. She was predeceased by her parents Christoph and Magdalene, her husband Emanuel and brothers Samuel, Gustav and Heinrich. Berta and Emanuel were married on December 29, 1951 and immigrated to Canada in 1954. In 1961 they moved to the farm in St. Laurent, MB where they resided and raised their family. Berta loved baking and gardening and had two huge gardens, and almost every weekend there were big family dinners and get-togethers. She made almost everything from scratch with pride and joy. Her tortes were amazing and her Christmas cookies made the local newspaper. They spent many winter months in Apache Junction, AZ where she made friends, and learned and had time to make crafts. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff on the 3rd floor of Kildonan Personal Care Centre for their compassion and attentive care shown to her over the last four years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
