ALEXANDER ROSENTHAL
Born: Jan 10, 1919
Date of Passing: Nov 15, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER ROSENTHAL Alex left for his happy hunting grounds peacefully, with his wife by his side, on November 15, 2014 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home at age 95. Born in Victoria Beach January 10, 1919, Alex lived briefly in Balmoral and then moved to Ear Falls, ON. Upon the death of his father in 1929, his working life started early relaying mail between towns with a dog sled, and progressed to electronics. He was responsible for airport and meteorological telecommunications across the country with the Department of Transport. His travels took him to every community in Canada from the high Arctic to Newfoundland and British Columbia. Alex and family spent many years in Stonewall, MB. They retired in 1972 and moved to Goldpines, ON. Eventually he moved to St. Norbert and continued his lifelong passion acknowledging his Metis heritage - playing his fiddle, hunting, fishing, prospecting, collecting, building and fixing. He always said he could fix anything except a broken heart. He is survived by his wife Cathleen (Kay) (nee McClure), his children: Noella Rosenthal (Norm Davison), Alex Rosenthal (Cathy), John (Jack or Zeke) Rosenthal, Lorne Rosenthal (Gisele), Janice Sisson, and Glenn Rosenthal. Alex was predeceased by his daughter Adele Snelgrove, and a son, Keith Rosenthal, who died in infancy. Alex had 22 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grand-children. He instilled both independence and self-reliance in each of us and always encouraged us to think for ourselves and to carve our own path. He showed us never to be afraid to try something new and how to build, repair and recycle. He firmly believed that anything worth doing was worth doing well (and usually on a big scale). He had a love of animals, especially his Newfoundland Jezebel and the many dogs in the family that followed. He took great pride in being the man that friends and family could always count on when plans went awry. He was always a champion of the underdog. Most importantly, he showed through his words and actions that a full rich life could and should be lived with humour, love, empathy, and honor. A Celebration of Life will be held December 6 at Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the Victoria Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.

Our sympathy goes to Kay and family. We have many fond memories of Alex especially at the ranch in Inwood. We have been friends over 60 years. True friends are hard to find and Alex & Kay are truly the best. - Posted by: Marjorie & Wes Koskie (Friends) on: Dec 06, 2014
