LESLIE CHRISTINE SHARPE With great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Leslie Christine Sharpe, at the age of 63, on Thursday, November 27, 2014 in Ardmore, Oklahoma while traveling to Texas. She was predeceased by her father George Sharpe, mother Donalda and sister Susan. She is survived by her partner and soul-mate Jean-Marie (Bill) Gallant, nephew Mark Boles, great- niece Kara, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Leslie was born February 10, 1951 in Pine Falls, Manitoba. She was an outstanding athlete in her younger years and enjoyed many wonderful days at the family cottage on Wallace Lake. Educated at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Les settled in Fort Frances, Ontario where she taught for many years at Fort Frances High School and IVEK/TLC. While in Fort Frances she met the love of her life, Bill. Together they enjoyed summer fishing trips, golf outings, numerous vacations and their many friends. They especially enjoyed winters at Trophy Gardens in Alamo, Texas. Les called Trophy Gardens their home away from home and was proud to be a "Winter Texan"! Leslie was a tremendous cook and took great joy entertaining family and friends. She had a spunky, yet kind character, paid utmost attention to detail, and was always willing to be generous of her time to help others. Les will be sadly missed by family and friends in Canada and the United States. A special thank you is extended to Leslie's dear friends Gloria and Allan Borody of Pine Falls, Manitoba. Thanks are also extended to the Ardmore EMS Staff, Mercy Hospital E.R. personnel and Chaplain Lin for their care and compassion. As per Leslie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. "When you miss someone who has passed away, think of it as a blessing that you were lucky enough to have had the kind of bond that makes you miss them that much." Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore, OK in care of arrangements.

  • So sorry to have just found out about Leslie online today. I knew her from the summers I spent near Pine Falls at my Grandparents place. Her family was great friends with mine. We enjoyed time with George, Donalda, Susan and Leslie. She kindly made a video of my grandparents place as it looks now and she took a few pics of family tombstones in Pine Falls. I'm sorry so many years went by since we actually saw each other. My sympathy goes out to Bill. RIP Leslie. - Posted by: Donna Robertson (Old friend) on: Dec 01, 2017

  • I was very saddened to read of Ms Sharpe's passing. She was one of my favorite teachers in high school. She was one of those rare people who could leave a distinct impression on a student's view of the future. Ms Sharpe was one of a very few who when I look back had a strong influence on my studies and vision of what could be accomplished. Her no nonsense approach coupled with her quick wit allowed her to control the classroom including the smart ass students such as myself with ease while allowing us all to have fun and learn at the same time. She will be missed and I know my thoughts are shared by many FFHS alumni. RIP Ms. Sharpe - Posted by: Bobby Steele (former student at FFHS 1992) on: Dec 17, 2014

  • Hi Bill, I am not certain how to get in touch with you to let you know we share your sorrow, and are thinking of you. One of our teacher co-workers posted Leslie's obituary from the Free Press this evening. It was such a shock. Hard to believe. Retirement cut short. Am sorry we didn't connect on our trip to FF this summer while you were fishing, but am so glad we kept in touch this year, despite the many miles apart...Leslie and I were friends for nearly half our lives. She took regular interest in our girls, (and my fretting over them) and let me share Donalda with her. :-) I will sure miss her, and always remember her as my 'tiny, but mighty' buddy or as she called us, 'Mutt&Jeff'. There's one fewer thread connecting us to Fort Frances now. We are hoping to be in Winnipeg this summer, so let us know if there will be any commemoration in either PineFalls or FF. Much love, Jane and Ruffy - Posted by: Alan & Jane Tibbetts (Friends) on: Dec 08, 2014

  • So sorry for your loss Bill, Leslie was such a "spunky" person. - Posted by: larisa and jim curr (friends from Fort Frances) on: Dec 07, 2014

  • Dear Leslie was one of my first and best friends when she came to teach at Fort High. We rode through many career and life changes together over the years..and shared several great holiday meals. We enjoyed our summer visits together, and kept regular contact throughout our respective travels. Ruff and I will miss her greatly, and send much love and condolences to Bill. - Posted by: Jane & Alan Tibbetts (friend of Leslie and Bill (in Tucson)) on: Dec 07, 2014

  • I am so sorry Bill that this has happened to you and Leslie. She was so looking forward to being back here in Texas. Leslie was a good friend, fellow teacher and Winter Texan. We were hoping to get together with you and Leslie this winter. Everyone from home who are here in our park is so shocked. She will be missed. Leslie had the best emails. I don't know how she found them, but the jokes were great and the information useful. I really can't quite believe that this really happened and I am not going to get another email or have another lunch at the Vous. - Posted by: Judy Mcleod (Friend, from Fort Frances, and Texas) on: Dec 07, 2014

  • condolences to her partner and to her pine falls family - Posted by: Rae Griffin nee (Hutchison) (childhood friend from Pine Falls) on: Dec 07, 2014

  • Leslie and I had some good times together. We would sing that song "Doo Wa Ditty Ditty Dum Ditty Do" while skipping down the sidewalk down by the village green. Once we hitch hiked from St John N.B. to Winnipeg because her friend who lived there wanted to come back to Winnipeg with us but didn't have the air fare. We had an apartment together on Young St in Winnipeg. I visited her in Ft Frances once. I am sorry that we didn't keep in touch. - Posted by: Doris Duval (friend from Powerview, Mb.) on: Dec 06, 2014
