PRYSTUPA With profound sadness, I, Frances announce the passing into eternity of my beloved husband Michael on Friday, December 5, 2014 at St. Boniface Hospital. Michael was born July 12, 1929 in the village Triskino, Western Ukraine. During the Second World War, Michael was taken from home and interned at a labour camp. Following his release from camp, he travelled by ship to Canada arriving at Halifax December 24, 1949. He worked on ship as a waiter to pay partly for his ship travel. From Halifax he travelled to Canora, SK to meet his sponsors. Moving to Winnipeg he was employed as a machinist at C.P. Rail. He was granted leave by C.P. Rail to Toronto to earn a diploma in electrical engineering returning back to C.P. Rail. Michael and I were married May 7, 1966 at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church living together in blessedness for 48 years. We both enjoyed our weekends at our summer homes in Dufresne and Grand Marais. Frances extends sincere thanks to Dr. M. Sherpertycka and the nursing staff of 5 East, St. Boniface Hospital. Surviving are, his beloved wife Frances, sister-in-law Florence McKay, brothers-in-law Alphae and Frances Toews of Cartwright, MB and Victor and Virginia Toews of St. Anne's, MB, and numerous nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his parents Gregory and Barbara, his twin brother Gabriel, as well as other brothers and sisters in Ukraine, brother-in-law Finley McKay, sisters-in-law Ella and Laura Toews, nephews Jeremy McKay and Jared Toews, and parents-in-law Jacob and Elizabeth Toews. Panakhyda (Prayers) will be chanted Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 110 Disraeli St., east of Main Street at Euclid Avenue (off Sutherland Avenue).
