Date of Passing: Dec 02, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROLAND GEORGE JOSEPH GAUTHIER Peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, Roland George Joseph Gauthier passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 77 years. Roland is survived by: his loving wife of 52 years, Monique (nee St-Onge), daughter Jocelyne Couture, son Guy (Sandra Kewley), son Jean (Patricia Theberge), daughter Carmelle (John Kraupnar), and daughter Nicole (Andrea Ethier); and grandchildren Nadia and Isabelle. He was predeceased by his grandson Jean-François, his parents Elas Gauthier and Irma Balcaen, two brothers and three sisters, and numerous in-laws. Roland was very devoted to his family, his church, his community, and his friends. He was very proud to be a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He took part in many committees, the local LUD, school trustee in the DSFM and Seine River. He was also a founding member of the Seine-Rat River Conservation District. He built the La Verendrye Golf Course with members of the Gauthier family. With his sons, he started Fermes Gauthier Farms which later became Porcheries Gauthier. But above all, Roland was a farmer, from dairy to purebred Charolais. His passion was hockey, having coached the Tom-Thumbs to the Senior Habs, he was also very passionate about the Montreal Canadiens. Rest well my love, you deserve it. A celebration of life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Highway 52W, Steinbach, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ste-Anne Palliative Care, 52 St. Gerard Street, Ste-Anne, MB R5H 1C4, or the Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2. Roland was not only my brother-in-law, He was a very good friend and mentor. He was a "damned Good Man" - Posted by: Alain St. Onge (Brother in Law) on: Dec 10, 2014

Je m'a soucié à ta peine. La mort c'est toujours la plus grande épreuve inacceptable qu'il faut apprendre à accepter. La seul consolation est que les souvenirs ne s'efface pas. Prend courage. Gaetane Guillou - Posted by: Gaetane Guillou (Friend of Monique) on: Dec 08, 2014

We thought of you with love today, But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday. And days before that too. We think of you in silence. We often speak your name. Now all we have is memories. And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake. With which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our heart. - Posted by: Crowbee () on: Dec 06, 2014

We had the opportunity of meeting this wonderful man on a few occasions, both in LaBroquerie and Ottawa. Just like his daughter Nicole, he exuded those strong silent qualities. Our deepest sympathies to the family. - Posted by: Nadine and Michèle from Ottawa (Friends of Roland's daughter Nicole) on: Dec 06, 2014
