Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY JOAN LAITHWAITE (nee QUIRT) October 3, 1930 - Toronto, Ontario November 29, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta It is with sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Joan Laithwaite (Foxy Dottie) on November 29, 2014 at the age of 84 years. Dottie loved to perform and was an accomplished speaker who won several Toastmaster accolades. As a long standing member of the Lions Organization Dottie dedicated countless hours to helping others and hosted an annual Stampede BBQ for the Lions volunteers. Dottie was able to express her creativity through her watercolours which are proudly displayed on the walls of the Lions Village for everyone to enjoy. Suffering from crippling Arthritis, Lupus and Cancer, she was a determined woman who always cared about others and didn't let her pain stop her from trying to live life to the fullest. Her love of animals was prevalent throughout her life and her best friend Kipper was her pride and joy. Dottie loved music and always wanted a sing song. She would harmonize with anyone who was singing. Dottie was incredibly proud of the time she opened and ran the Springs Inn restaurant with her family in Radium, BC back in 1975. She was famous for her French Onion Soup and ensuring everyone was full and happy when they left the restaurant. That trait stayed with her throughout her entire life. Dottie was an award winning Bartender and one of the first females provincially licensed to serve alcohol in Manitoba in 1955. Dottie is survived by her children: Stewart Fay (Patricia), Barry Thorgrimson (Cheryl), Coral Phelps (Roy) and Kathy Kennedy, and her grandchildren: Sam, Amelia, Ryan, Andrea, Lindsey, Adam, Cody, Nicholette and Tyler. A celebration of life was held in Calgary on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Lions Village where she had resided. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of your choice.
