Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE MATTES (nee DENICH) May 24, 1923 - December 4, 2014 With overwhelming sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She is lovingly remembered by daughter Connie (Dennis), son Philip, granddaughter, Amanda (Rob), grandson Rylan and Jamie (Kelly) great-grandchildren Alyssa, Tyler, Justin, Jerrica, nieces Eileen, Judy, Mara, and nephew Davis. Rose was predeceased by her loving husband Philip, daughter Lorraine, sisters Laura and Mary, as well as brothers Rudolph and Leo. Rose was born in Melville, SK and later the family moved to Grayson, SK. As a child Rose helped her father in his blacksmith shop. She also helped with the delivery of baby when she was only 12 years old. Rose's work life started at age 16 with various jobs including being a nanny, housekeeper, waitress and factory worker. She later went on to work for the Post Office, where she retired after 30 years of service at age 64. Rose and Phil then bought a cottage at Hillside Beach, where the family enjoyed 30 years of berry picking, walks, card playing, and just being together. Rose loved this. Rose's pancakes and coffee were world class! Rose met her husband Philip while walking with her sister Laura on the boardwalk at Winnipeg Beach. Philip whistled at them as they walked by and Rose whistled back. That was the start of a loving 58 year marriage. They married on November 4, 1944. Lorraine, Connie and Philip arrived a few years later. Most of all Rose loved her family. Family was everything to her. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her life will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The family welcomes any stories or pictures of your favorite moment with Mom. Internment at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations could be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge, especially Elm Unit for the ongoing, loving care they provided Rose over the last few years.
