PETER S. FUNK Peter S. Funk, at the tender age of 91, passed peacefully in his sleep on December 8, 2014. Peter now joins his beloved wife of 55 wonderful years, Roseline (nee Klippenstein). Dad worked for Simmons Rentals of Winnipeg for 35 years, as a heavy-duty mechanic. Mom and Dad raised their family in their St. Vital Home and Dad remained in it until 2011. Fiercely independent to the end, Dad enjoyed racing his scooter through the streets of St. Vital (the sidewalks were too rough) and too often far beyond, testing the endurance of the batteries, and the patience of local drivers. He will be lovingly remembered by Norm (Janice), James (Chris), Judy (Denis) and Susan (Emile); as well as 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road. Interment will follow at Hiebert Heritage Cemetery, Niverville, MB. Special thanks to the staff and his friends at Lions Manor, especially Lies for making his last years enjoyable. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9, would be appreciated. In Dad's own words, he always said as we parted ways "Love You and Leave You". NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

  • Uncle Pete was a blessed man. He spent 55 years with the woman he loved, had 4 children and many grandchildren who he held close to his heart. He got to live 91 very productive years and died peacefully in his sleep in time to spend Christmas with the love of his life. My thoughts and prayers are with the family who are left to miss him. Remember your good times with him. - Posted by: Pat Steele (Niece) on: Dec 13, 2014

  • I worked with Peter close to 20 years at Simmons Rentals. Pete, as we called him, always had a good word of advice for us younger guys around the shop, helping us out when were stuck on some repairs and sharing some laughs. Remember visiting Pete at his home and seeing a Chevy van sitting in the driveway. As Pete was always a Ford person, and nobody could tell him different without an argument, Rose just laughed and said...times have changed. He will be missed! - Posted by: LES ( SPIKE ) KOTYK (Former co-worker & friend) on: Dec 11, 2014

  • Peter was my Mother's big brother and I remember a time many years ago (31 years I believe) when I had just finished installing an engine on my TR6 and was about to start it. Peter and Rose, along with my Mother, showed up completely unexpectedly (we live in London On and apparently Pete and Rose had just arrived from Winnipeg possibly the day before). I hadn't seen him for many years before that. I was in the driveway with the car up on a ramp when they showed up and was just about to start it. I was prepared to lay down the tools and visit for awhile but Pete didn't go in the house with my Mother and Rose but wanted to hear the car run. We started it and it ran for several seconds before a distinct noise was heard from the engine. I took the oil pan off at Pete's suggestion and we found the crankshaft thrust bearings in the oil pan. Not good. Apparently the previous owner had not completely put the engine back together properly and this was the first time I had started it. Pete was right in there with his sleeves rolled up and grease all over his hands helping me first to start the car and then determine the cause of the noise. He advised me that the engine may have been damaged beyond reasonable repair and of course he was correct. I couldn't believe that he would get all dirty and spend so much time with this when he was here for a visit. He truly loved working on cars or any type of machinery, I'm sure even a scooter later in life. I saw him several times over the subsequent years and always enjoyed being with him. We will truly miss him and want all of his immediate family to know that our thoughts are with them on this day. - Posted by: Don and Karen Chambers and Family (Nephew ) on: Dec 11, 2014
