CHARLES HUGH WATKINS On December 8, 2014, just two months shy of turning 93, Charles left this world with peace and dignity, knowing he would be reunited with Rae once again. There was great sadness in watching this vibrant man decline so quickly. Charles was born on February 8, 1922, the eldest of three children. He was raised, educated and lived in Winnipeg his whole life. His life may have seemed very ordinary; it was however filled with extraordinary things. Charles served his country in the Second World War as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He had 25 plus years of service with JRK Navy Cadets and Manitoba Division of Navy League. Dad also worked for various departments of the Federal Government until retirement: Post Office, Northern Affairs, Freshwater Fisheries, and Transport Canada. He was able to visit very remote parts of northern Canada. Dad was a kind man, who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was very in tune to what was going on in the world. He was always interested in what you had to say, family and extended family was very important to Dad and he enjoyed time spent with them. He was predeceased by his wife, Raymonde Watkins (Arpin), his parents Robert B. and Miriam Watkins. Sadly he leaves to mourn and honour his memory: his son Robert C. Watkins and wife Iris Granda; grandson Nicholas Granda-Watkins; brother Robert A. Watkins; his sister Grace (John) King; his sister-in-law Jeannine (Marcel) Pineau, also many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the staff at Misericordia Health Centre, Cornish 5, Cedar Grove, who took such excellent care, and made Dad's last days comfortable. In accordance with Dad's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Diabetes Association or to charity of choice. Viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. • I have many memories of your parents, as we were neighbours for so long. I was happy to read that he had been in good health for so long. He was such a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humour. I am sure you will miss him greatly, but I am also sure you have a heart full of memories to keep him close to you always. - Posted by: Joan Kleyh.
