Date of Passing: Dec 14, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJENS BENT NIELSEN Early Sunday morning, December 14, 2014, the heavens opened up, for a precious new star. With profound sadness we announce the passing of our much loved brother, Jens Bent Nielsen, fondly known as "Scooter". Jens touched the hearts of everyone. He loved to laugh, and especially more when you laughed with him. Jens shared each day, imparting his sense of humour. He was always sporting a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face and a welcoming heart. Happiest with an action figure in his pocket and a Coke in his hand, he loved to meet people, make friends, and share his newest Power Ranger. Jens's love was truly a gift. This man taught us all how to live life, with precious simplicity. Jens's brother Trevor, and sisters Kim "Kiminee", Belinda "Belinnah, Crystal "Dwis" and many family members mourn his passing. Our brother Jens spent the past month with his newest community family, the GH5 Ward at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre. Everyone, staff, patients, visitors welcomed Jens into their lives with generous heart. The excellent care and genuine compassion that each of you shared with Jens will always, always be remembered. Thank you Leah, Melanie, Meagon, Stacey, "Chocolate" Sunday, Madonna, Gobie, Joanne, Sumtah, Maribel, and to all who cared night and day for Jens. Our hearts thank all in the plastics surgery department, ICU, recovery, housekeeping, laundry, food services, to those we never met, nurses, unit assistants, ward staff, IV staff, blood "poke hole in my hand" department and various attending physicians. To charge nurse Colleen, Dr. Waqqas Jalil and Dr. Leif Sigurdson - we soulfully thank you for your passionate care, your hearts and your medical knowledge, please know that the moments you shared with our brother, Jens Bent Nielsen kept him safe and loved. He will be deeply missed, living forever in our hearts and in yours. Party on Scooter!

While visiting a friend in the same hospital room, my husband and I had the privilege of meeting Jens. We were dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus and were delighted to spend a few minutes with Jens. The smile and joy in his eyes as he teased with "bah, humbug!" was a great conversation starter. Our condolences to his family and friends on the passing of this loveable, dear person. - Posted by: Lil Goertzen (Mrs. Claus) (acquaintance) on: Dec 17, 2014

Please accept The GH5 team's heartfelt condolences on the passing of our smiling Super Star Jens. We are truly privileged to be included as part of his loving family given he had only been part of our lives for such a short time. The fact that you recognized each and every team member's contribution is deeply appreciated. Jens' humour, warmth, and open heart inspired and motivated surgeons, nurses, unit assistants and housekeeping - our entire team - to stop the busyness and reflect on the true reason we work in healthcare. Our GH5 Team is so grateful that Jens came into our lives. The experience of caring for him has and will positively impact the passionate collaborative approach we use with current and future patients, families... and with each other. Also, none of us will ever look at a Power Ranger the same way again! Scooter's spirit lives on here on GH5. - Posted by: Monika Gawthrop, Manager of Patient Care GH5 Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg.
