FRANK HENRY WHEELER Peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 a great soul left us at the age of 93. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Gladys, his children Daniel (Fran) Wheeler, Deb (Ted) Rivington, Frank (Deidre) Wheeler, Susan (Shane) Nestruck, Vicki (Mitch) Favel, grandchildren David and Thad Wheeler, Cindy and Paul Rivington, Frank, Michael and Karen Wheeler, Josh Favel, Lee and Rex McTavish, and six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Arthur and Herbert and great-granddaughter Alice. Frank was born on November 24, 1921 in London, England. He joined the Royal Air Force in March of 1941 and served in Canada, Belgium, Holland, and Germany until June of 1946. In 1947 he moved to Canada and settled in Winnipeg, MB. Frank met his wife Gladys in 1947. They married in 1951 and settled in Fort Garry where they raised their family. Frank found great joy in square dancing with Gladys for over 35 years. They made many lifelong friends swinging and do-si-do'ing all over North America. Frank was a truly patient and knowledgeable man and also dedicated 20 years to Boy Scouts of Canada. Frank later found one of his greatest passions in wood carving. When the family trees came down in his back yard, Frank carved new life into the wood by crafting many beautiful pieces of art for his family and friends to enjoy. Frank was remarkably mechanically inclined and had a passion for problem solving and understanding how things worked. Upon settling in Winnipeg, he secured a job with MTS overseeing a machine shop where his skills and inventive spirit were able to thrive. Frank remained with MTS for the next 35 years. Since retiring in 1982 he enjoyed dedicating his time to the MTS volunteer group right up until his last few months. Gladys and the family would like to thank Dr. Robyn Olson, Comforts of Home, WRHA Palliative Care and the staff at Victoria Hospital. "We wish to express our gratitude to Milly Malavsky and Elizabeth Brown for giving us hope and courage." The family requests that any gifts be made in the form of donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. "Love you forever ..."
