Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARJORIE RUTH HOLMES (MOTT) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the age of 70 years. Marj was born on December 4, 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and raised on Kylemore Avenue in Fort Rouge. She was predeceased by her brother Donny in 1939, her father Charlie in 1985, her brother Ray in 2000, and her mother Lilian in 2005. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Ted, sons Shawn (Glonor) and Bob (Sheryl), and daughter Tanya (David Ali), and 10 grandchildren, Devin, Eryck, Mahailia, Braxten, Charlie, Jack, Emily, Paige, Sian, and Caitlin. Marj attended Churchill High School. She worked at Systems Equipment before starting a family. Later she worked for Manitoba Telephone System until she retired. Marj's parents purchased a cottage at Grand Beach in 1950, and she never missed the opportunity to jump in the waves on a windy day. She spent many summers on the beach sunbathing, watching her children and grandchildren play. As per Marj's wishes, she was cremated and her ashes will be taken to Grand Beach. A memorial service will take place at Churchill Park United Church - 525 Beresford Avenue on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Our family would like to thank all medical and support staff at St. Boniface General Hospital Palliative Care and Buhler Cancer Centre - Victoria General Hospital for their dedication, care, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Winnipeg Pet Rescue.

It has been 4 years and 243 days since you have left. I miss you so so so so much. I remember you being like my second mom. You were always there when we needed. You always came down to the beach with us, and were never hesitant to build a sand castle, or go swimming with us. We were your “Little Creeps” as you would like to call us constantly. When we didn't eat our supper we were threatened with coleslaw or salmon, your favourite. On warm sunny mornings I remember feeding chipmunks with you. You taught us how to pet them too. Bunnies were your favourite. You had bunny everything! Bunny stuffed animals, magnets, clothes, you name it! You liked travelling and spending time with my siblings, and I. One time we went back to school shopping and Emily and Paige got backpacks. When school was almost starting the twins were fighting over whose backpack was whose. We decided to give you a call and you knew exactly whose was whose! I remember when you were in the hospital you never lost your happy self. You told us “Suck it up!” You were such a smart, caring, amazing grandma ever! I love you so much and I miss you tons! I hope you’re having fun with the angels. - Posted by: Charlie Holmes (Granddaughter ) on: Aug 16, 2019

I remember seeing her on the beach when the two little twin girls were babies helping out and thought my goodness what a nice gramma. Always playing with the kids in the water. I admired you. My "across the lane" friend and I knew each other since I moved onto Walker at age 8 [Marj was 9]. I will miss greeting her at Co op and at the beach [usually walking back to the cottage with her grandchildren and family]. She certainly loved them and was proud of them. So sorry I had to miss the memorial service but my thoughts were and are with her family. She will be missed. - Posted by: Dianne Oakley (Childhood friend, neighbor, and fellow Grand Beacher) on: Dec 23, 2014

I remember Marg as the happy go lucky person. I remember I would see her walk around in Sales and Service with her Bare feet at times! I mentioned it to her at one time and she said, "if I could; I would be in bare feet all the time!" She was obviously, very much an outdoors person who mentioned more than once said she loved being in the mud and working in the garden. She was a nice lady. Oh Marj, we can't believe you are gone. You have been our favourite neighbour and living here just won't be the same without you. Jeff will miss you cranking open your kitchen window and laughing with him when he FINALLY gets around to shovelling our walk. I will miss the neighbourly advice and the baskets of fresh garden veggies that would magically appear on our back step. Kali and Ava will miss waving to you from our dining room window and seeing your big smile and wave. They will also miss your surprise gifts of watermelon. For these and many more reasons this neighbourhood will never be the same without you. We just adored you and will miss your friendly smiles, your feisty nature and your kind heart. Our deepest condolences to Ted, your children and grandchildren. - Posted by: Kara Machnicki (Neighbour and friend ) on: Dec 20, 2014

I have many memories of Marj from growing up with her kids to simply being a neighbour as an adult. She was a great person to have as a neighbour as she was always watching out for everyone and everything. She loved all the dogs and would stop to pet them and often sneak them treats. My condolences to the entire family. - Posted by: Morag Livingstone (friend/neighbour) on: Dec 18, 2014

I am still in shock and will miss Marj terribly. She was a great neighbour who I enjoyed talking with whenever we were outside together. Her smiling face will be noticeably missing around the neighbourhood. Our sincere condolences go out to Ted and their children and grandchildren.
