Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA THERESA GESSLER December 26, 1957 December 13, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Brandy (Kevin), her two sons Derik, and Scott, and her life-long friends Mary and Mike. She also leaves her dear brother Roman in BC, sisters Julie, Sonya, Manuela, and Marianne, and brother Mario. She was preceded by her father Edward and mother Marianne. Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. After starting a family she moved to East St. Paul where she encouraged and supported her kids in academics and many organized sports. She had a passion for cooking homemade meals for her family, and enjoyed her beautiful flower beds throughout the yard. She was a kind, caring, and loving person who always enjoyed the company of family and friends. Mom loved hearing laughter in the household and enjoyed having her children's friends over for meals. Mom was happiest when surrounded by loved ones. Mom had touched many lives, and her memory and spirit will live on within us. We will miss her gentle touch, words of wisdom, and beautiful smile. Celebration of life services will be held on Monday, December 22 at 1:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Brandy, Derik and Scott. It deeply saddens me very much to hear of your mother's passing. I have known your mother for a very long time she was taken so suddenly from you. We went through elementary school together had lots of fun walking home every day with Basha and my brothers and sister. We lost touch after grade 6 because we went to different schools but still kept in touch not as much after high school, we got together again to catch up with old times she was my maid of honor as well as I was hers I will cherish all the photos and memories I have of Basha she will be missed dearly. Derek, Brandy & Scott. We met your mother when you and Brandon played hockey together. We always sat together and talked about our families, cooking, recipes and our hockey playing sons. Barb was a lovely woman. Always friendly and warm to others. Though I haven't seen her since those hockey days, I will always remember her smile. Our prayers are with all of you. This year has been a very sad one for losing so many wonderful souls. Hugs to all of you. My heart goes out to you Brandy, Derik and Scott. Your mother was an amazing person. I can still see/hear her infectious laughter. We had such good times together. it is because of her that I married my husband - 25 years ago. She was a true gem and I am richer for having known her. There is no doubt she is watching over you from above. Keep your best memories close to your heart to help you through this difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Rachel Parkinson (Friend from the past) on: Dec 23, 2014

I was so very saddened to hear about Barb's passing. Still hard to believe and accept. We met in grade 9 at Aberdeen School and stayed friends till after we graduated from St. John's High. She was one of my bridesmaids and I attended her wedding as well. She was a good friend that my whole family all knew and liked right from the start. She would come to my house and endure the teasing my Dad always gave her, wanting her to sit on his knee telling her how pretty she was and asking how many boys were chasing her today. My youngest sister recalls how me and Barb thought we knew what we were doing when we attempted to pierce her ears with a needle and a potato, and then proceed to give her a perm that ruined her hair for months! We all knew her as Basha. As everyone's lives change and we get busy with all life hands to us, we lost touch but reconnected many years later. I remember visiting her when her first child was born. I went to her home to see the new baby and tried to catch up on what was happening in our lives. Then as we all do, we said we should keep in touch and of course never did. Last time I saw her was in a mall in Transcona and she was shopping with one of her sons. I had one of my daughters with me and we briefly talked and commented on how fast the years went by. Seems like not long ago we were sitting listening to records and painting our nails, gossiping on friends, and then we blinked and we now were having a conversation with our teenagers standing by us. I'll never forget you Barb, and whenever I think of our years of friendship I'll miss you all over again. Family, please take solace in knowing your mom and sister was so well-liked and loved by everyone who had the chance to know her. - Posted by: Val Antonation (Schoolmate and friend) on: Dec 21, 2014
