Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNOLD C. AFFLECK Peacefully with family at his side, with sadness we announce the death of Arnold (Arnie) C. Affleck, aged 86, on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Health Sciences Centre. Arnie was predeceased by his wife Evelyn (2001), older brother Al, and sister Marion. He will always be thought of daily by his daughters Susan (Robert) Murdoch and Shannon (Bruce) Lillie; grandchildren Sarah and Laura Murdoch; MacLaren and Scott Lillie; and great-grandson Maverick Murdoch. Arnie's remaining brother Robert (Bob) and wife Mary Ann of Houston, Texas and their family continue on the Affleck name and heritage. Arnie was a successful businessman in the property, casualty and grain insurance business. His career brought him from the Wood Bay, Pilot Mound and Killarney areas of Manitoba to the big city, Winnipeg. Later he transferred to Saint John, New Brunswick until eventually earning a position with the Grain Insurance & Guarantee Company (Winnipeg) succeeding to the position as President. His business life was marked by his immense honesty, integrity and respect for those he worked with. His character was unquestionable which he carried in his personal life as well. Look up the phrase "gentleman" and you will find a picture of Arnie. Arnie and Evie were life, ski, golf and curling enthusiasts and made many, many friends and happy memories as they embraced others in their sports and adventures. Nothing beat great family trips to the Rockies, friendly competition and sport psychology on the golf course or reliving a curling game shot on the game board in the family room. The family cottage at Rock Lake was the perfect hide-a-way from city life and many weekends of bonfires and learning around the campfire took place there over three generations. Arnie often said, "There is no more fun than people!" The family extends their sincere thanks to the caring and compassionate professionals at Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and home care services. The family has arranged for private cremation but will host a celebration of Arnie's life, some good stories and community at the St. Charles Country Club, Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., hosted by daughters Susan and Shannon and family. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

I was saddened to hear of Arnie's passing. I had the great fortune to spend time with the family out at the Rock Lake cabin - Arnie was always ready to pilot the ski boat as I tried and tried to learn to get up on my skiis. His words of encouragement still ring in my ears. He was a joyful presence and his good nature was contagious - he will be missed but not forgotten. Condolences to the family. We are saddened to learn of Arnie's death. A light has gone out of the world with his passing. Remembering the fun times we had at Christmas gatherings over past years, with Arnie keeping watch over us all with his abundant hospitality, welcoming smile and infectious laugh. Thinking of you all and holding you close in our hearts and prayers at this sad time. Sharon and Fred Konyen - Posted by: Sharon and Fred Konyen () on: Jan 02, 2015

For the last couple of decades Arnie was a leading participant on Tuesday mornings in the ROF(Retired Old Fellows) Golf Group at St. Charles. While our handicaps rose precipitously over the years all of us and particularly our pal Arnie continued to enjoy the good fellowship and still competitive atmosphere. We will miss you Arnie but you will always be remembered as a true gentleman and friend. Rest in Peace, Arnie: I have memories of our adventures in insurance back in the 50's and again in the 70's, 80's and 90's with "the Grain". Started with less than 10 policyholders - retired with thousands. Job well done. I'll always remember going to the Canuck's game in Vancouver!! - Posted by: Bill de Jong (Co-worker) on: Dec 21, 2014
