Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD (DON) JOHN HILDER July 5, 1933 - December 15, 2014 It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend Don, on Monday, December 15 at Lion's Place in Winnipeg at the age of 81 years. Don was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Doris Hilder, and his older brother Tom. He poured his life into the lives of his brothers Bruce (Brenda), Jim (Debbie), as well as sisters Sharon Procewiat and Judy (Bob) Colonval, and sister-in-law Pat (Mait) Sundmark. Don also enjoyed keeping up on the lives of his nieces Vivian (David) Skwark, Kellie (Jeff) Richards, Katie Hilder, Erin (Wilf) Thomas and nephews Don (Judy) Hilder, Sean Hilder, Sean (Jacqueline) Procewiat, Christopher (Marian) Procewiat, Scott Hilder, Kevin Hilder, Dan (Valerie) Colonval, Matt (Karla) Colonval and their families. His passing will also be mourned by many extended family members and friends. Don loved to share his love of fishing, canoeing and cycling with family and friends alike. He participated in many Red Rock Bible Camp cyclathon events and encouraged others to get involved as well. Volunteering with the Awana program at Elim Chapel and also at the Union Gospel Mission were also very important to Don. One of his passions that grew over the years was his love of collecting teddy bears. Their presence in his suite gave him great joy. Don will be missed by his many friends at his Seniors Bible Study, and at Lion's Place where he enjoyed Monday evening cribbage and Friday night bingo before his ailing health prevented it. His close friend and camping companion on many adventures, Geoff (Pam) Massey, will also miss Don deeply. The family would like to thank all the thoughtful and supportive home care workers who helped make Don's last few months more enjoyable. Thanks also to Concordia Hospital CancerCare staff and Dr. P. Harris for their compassionate care of Don whenever he was there. Funeral service will be held at Elim Chapel 546 Portage Avenue on Saturday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m. with Ed Hughes presiding. Viewing prior to the service. After a short reception the interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to Union Gospel Mission or Red Rock Bible Camp.

Don was a special man. I knew him from Elim Chapel. The year ( 197?) he purchased his cottage at Lake Brereton, he let my husband and I enjoy a mini vacation in his seasonal trailer in the campground because (he had the spot til the end of the season). We continued to camp in the area in a tent trailer and were always welcome to drop by the cottage and visit with Don and his mom. He would lend us his canoe. It was fun running in to him throughout the city, either riding his bike or maintaining the bus shelters. We had many talks about his commitment to Red Rock Bible Camp and his time as a Big Brother with that organization. He was a dear, sweet, caring man. I will miss him. I take comfort in knowing that he is now "at home." - Posted by: Judy Lewadny (friend) on: Dec 26, 2014

Uncle Don will be missed. I have fond memories of camping at Brereton Lake, canoeing with Uncle Don and sitting by the fire at night. Years of spotting him cycling through the city still cause me to look at passing cyclists to see if it might be him. So many memories that I will always treasure. - Posted by: Erin (Niece) on: Dec 20, 2014
