ANTONIA MIR On December 13, 2014, after a prolonged illness, Antonia passed away at Misericordia Hospital at 82 years of age. Antonia was born February 29, 1932, in Mallorca, Spain. She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband, Mateo. She leaves to mourn her three daughters Mary (Dick) Cairns, Frances (Rick) Mir Robertson, Carmen (Gerald) Lambert; her grandchildren Michael (Ann), Jackie, Natalie (Justin), Matthew, Charlie, Joshua and Jordyn; three great-grandchildren Declan, Kate and Claire. Antonia was raised in Mallorca, Spain. At the age of 16, she met the love of her life and her soulmate, Mateo. They were married January 7, 1955. Dad's thirst for life and adventurous spirit led them overseas to Canada seeking a better life in 1956. Grandma had excellent work ethic, spending the majority of her career as a talented tailor/seamstress, and loved to needlepoint. She was caring, loving, generous, a doting mother, with unconditional love for her family. She loved travel, nature and being at the lake with her children. We will miss her golden smile, her eagerness to help and her mother tongue, Mallorquin. Once they had successfully raised her family they were fortunate enough to own a home in Mallorca and enjoyed many retirement years with family and friends back on their beautiful paradise island. The family is grateful to our many wonderful friends and family. A very special thank you to the staff at Misericordia Hospital who provided exceptional, genuine and compassionate care in her final days on earth. Cremation has taken place and a private family service is being held. If desired, donations may be made to Cancercare in her memory. "Our dear sweet loving mother. We take comfort in knowing that you are in dad's arms again." Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • Dear Francis, Carman & Mary & families, The whole Stewart family sends you our sympathy & well wishes. My parents thought a lot of your parents...and they were fortunate enough to be the recipients of your father's tasty paella before your folks left Monaco Bay. Your parents are together again and we hope you find some comfort in this. Please know my folks wanted to send you their very best regards & a card, but sadly we have lost track of your address. Take care xo - Posted by: Sandy Glover ( Stewart) (Monaco Bay friends) on: Dec 30, 2014

  • My deepest condolences to all the family. Your mother, grandmother will never be obliterated from the tabernacles of our most gracious memories. She was a wonderful woman, full of laughter, life and love. She raised wonderful daughters and instilled a deep, sincere bond with family and friends. God be with you all in your time of mourning. I pray for strength and a peace during this time as we reflect on life and it's stages of growth. May God be with you all. - Posted by: Lynn Hale (family of daughter) on: Dec 27, 2014

  • Mrs. Mir (as we kids on Monaco knew her as) was like a second mom to me and my sister, Carlu and my brother, Greg. What struck me most about her was her curiosity and willingness to set aside her worries and trepidations and let things happen as they may. She'd let her kids set out on adventures; not quite wanting to let them go, not quite sure if they'd be safe, but knowing that she would be a better mom for it. I think she secretly wished she could go with them... - Posted by: Marya Kalen (Old friend of the family) on: Dec 22, 2014
