Date of Passing: Dec 16, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT JOHN BUTCHER After many years of living with Alzheimer's Disease, "Bert" passed away peacefully on December 16, 2014 at Vista Park Lodge. Born in Winnipeg in 1928 to Jack and Ida Butcher, he was predeceased by his parents and sister, Pat, and niece Laurane. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Beverly; his daughter Linda Nehra and her husband Paul; his son Douglas Butcher and his wife Joanne; his grandchildren Christopher (Lindsey) and Jenny (Michael); his brother, Don (Irene); his sister-in-law Pat, and his many nieces and nephews. Little pet Bonnie will also miss his presence in her life. Bert's early years were spent in West Kildonan where he attended Seven Oaks, Victory and Centennial schools. He went on to complete his education at St. Paul's High School. During his summer vacation, Bert and his friend Gord Smith spent many happy days at Grand Beach. Immediately upon graduation, Bert went to work at Air Canada. He was transferred to Montreal in 1963, where he spent nine years working in various roles before moving back to Winnipeg in 1972. Prior to his retirement from Air Canada in 1983, he worked as the Administration Manager of the Pension Department, a position he thoroughly enjoyed. Bert loved traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren, and later with his son-in-law. He was an enthusiastic father and grandfather, coaching soccer, working as a cub leader, and enjoying family gatherings at Oakbank. He golfed regularly. He was an avid carver, and continued to enjoy the company of his carving group even during the early stages of his illness. Thanks go out to Jack Motyer for his unfailing friendship and his encouragement to Bert as his illness progressed. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 22, 2014 at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Ramgoolam, Darlene, Rosaline and the wonderful staff at Vista Park Lodge, who lovingly cared for our husband, father and grandfather for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Herb and I worked in the same office. He was so tolerant picking me up in his car in the mornings and I seemed to be late every day! What a nice guy he was........... - Posted by: Gwen Grant (Old friend from Air Canada in Winnipeg) on: Dec 20, 2014
