KENNETH (NEIL) MARTIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Friday, December 19, 2014, at the age of 76 years. Neil was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Hilda Martin and stepdaughter Beverly. Left to forever treasure his memory are his loving wife, Florence "Flo" Scott; son David (Yolanda), daughter Kelly (Michael); grandson Corbin; stepson Brad, stepdaughter Kim and their families; sisters Joyce and Beverly "June"; as well as many nieces and nephews. Neil was born on June 28, 1938 in Kingston, Ontario. Early on, he showed an interest in flying and by age 18 had joined the Canadian Air Force, where he proudly served as an Airplane Technician for 31 years. His military service saw him posted to France, Toronto and Edmonton before his final assignment to Winnipeg, where he lived the remainder of his life. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Neil worked briefly at StandardAero Engine, as a driver at a transportation service for people with disabilities and as a bartender at the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Club. His real second career, however, was with the Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg, where he worked for over 25 years as Warehouse Manager. He retired from this position just last year at the age of 75. In his private time, Neil was an avid sports fan. He ran, and completed, four Manitoba Marathons, played baseball, golf and curling. He regularly watched sports on television and enthusiastically cheered for his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. Nothing made him happier than when the Blue Jays would beat the New York Yankees. Neil's other great joy was, in his 50s, learning to fly small airplanes. He often would take family and friends up into the sky for travels around southern Manitoba. Neil loved his family and friends. He entertained us all with many humorous stories and fascinating tales. Neil's family extends a sincere thanks to the staff at Grace Hospital for their kind care during his final days. In keeping with Neil's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Ash interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Neil may be made to the Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg or the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada. • It is with much sadness that we learn of Neil's passing. We have many fond memories of the good times when we shared apts in the same home in France. Also fondly remember when David would visit and enjoy going in & out of the cabinet doors and rearrange the canned goods while playing hide & seek. We are blessed to have happy & fun memories of our times together. Our sympathy to Neil's complete family.
