IRENE LOUISE PROBETTS (nee GIBBONS) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Irene Probetts on December 20, 2014 at the age of 81, at Beacon Hill Personal Care Home, with her family at her side. Irene will be missed by her forever loving husband of 60 years, Ron, daughter Tannis (Lee), son Bruce (Linda), John (Iris), sister-in-law Barbara, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her namesake aunty Irene Ruse. Irene was predeceased by her mother Mae Gibbons, sister Shirley Wood, and nephews Garry and Ron Wood. Irene loved her time at her cottage at Pinawa Bay, fishing, knitting, quilting, pickling, traveling but most of all loved being with her family. Mom was a loving, caring and generous person. Knitting baby sweaters for others, baking or making quilts for family members was something she loved to do. Mom and Dad loved entertaining on their deck at the lake with all their lake friends for whom they cherished. She loved being a nursery school teacher at General Vanier School and children still remember her to this day. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mom's two cherished, longtime friends, Isla Mae and Diane who remained a constant in her life until the end. We'd also like to thank Mom's caregivers at Beacon Hill Lodge, 7th Floor - you were like family to Mom and we cannot thank you enough for the love and support you gave our Mom and our family -we love all of you. Unfortunately, Mom was diagnosed with dementia many years ago. Even with this terrible disease, she maintained her sense of humour, grace and dignity. In keeping with Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day Street at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Alzheimer Society or charity of your choice.   • My memories of Irene go back many years when we used to bowl in the afternoon at Windsor Lanes. Irene was such fun, always smiling. We took Tannis and my son to the babysitter and went off to bowling. In later years imagine my surprise when as a young adult, Tannis and I worked together. Although I did not see Irene very often, I did think of her and Ron whenever I passed their house on Dussualt and I know the sadness of dementia and the loss of a mother.   • Ron, Tannis, Bruce and John; we were so sorry to hear of Irene's passing. Ron, we will forever be grateful having you and Irene looking in on Dad and helping him after Mom passed away. I will never forget the telephone call from Irene telling us that Dad was up on the roof (in his 90's) cleaning the gutters (Dad's ladder disappeared shortly thereafter).
