DONALD JAMES COOK
Born: Aug 27, 1936
Date of Passing: Dec 23, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD JAMES COOK Peacefully on December 23, 2014 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB our loving father and grandfather Donald James Cook went home to be with his precious Lord and Saviour. Donnie was born August 27, 1936, the second of seven siblings born to Herm and Chrissie Cook of Steep Rock, MB. He grew up and went to school in the Steep Rock area. He married his sweetheart Marilyn Joan Olson on July 8, 1961 and they enjoyed 40 wonderful years together raising their family on the farm near Steep Rock. He gave his heart to the Lord as a young man and was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. He dedicated his life to being a husband, father and grandfather. As a Christian his desire was to see each of his children and grandchildren come to know the Saviour. He lived such a simple, humble life taking very little thought of his own needs but always thinking of the needs and happiness of those around him. In the last few years he took great pleasure in growing a huge garden and sharing the bounty with others. Dad was our hero, and each of us children wanted to be just like him. He had a real love of the land and ranching which he strongly instilled in each of his children. He worked so hard all his life and built up a ranch that he lived to see his children and grandchildren take over. He will be sadly missed by his five children Kris (Shelly), Stephen (Shawna), Darren (Brandi), Joanne (Ian) Thorson, Cheryl (Brent) Geransky; twenty-two grandchildren; Joel (Christa), Brianna (Garett), Josh, Spencer, Jessica, Jennette, Shiloh, Sarah, Anna, John, William, Grace, Carissa, Obed, Faith, Heidi, Christy, Silas, Meaghan, Joseph, Adam and April; three foster grandchildren Wyanita, Terri-lynn and Alayna and two great-grandchildren Felix and Sadie; as well as his precious brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his precious wife Marilyn, his parents Herm and Chrissie Cook, his in-laws Kris and Martha Olson and his little sister Marnie. Though it hurts to let him go, it gives us comfort to know dad and mom are together again walking hand-in-hand in that beautiful place. Look for us at the Eastern gate. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Falkner Community Hall with Ian Thorson officiating. A private family burial will take place in the Faulkner Cemetery prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donnie's memory to the Steep Rock Christian Fellowship Missionary Fund, PO Box 1 Steep Rock, R0C 2Y0. Was a real treat to meet your father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was so likeable, and we are so thankful his suffering was only for a moment before he went to meet his sweetheart. Will be praying for your family, and trust the memories you hold so dear will give you comfort and joy, as you await your final meeting with both of them. God bless - Posted by: Menno & Sandra (friends) on: Dec 27, 2014
