DONALD BRIAN FAST December 7, 1944- December 19, 2014 In the early morning hours of December 19, 2014, Donald passed away suddenly with his wife Judi at his side. Don is predeceased by his parents Earl Donald Fast and Irene Julia Fast (nee Baillie) and is survived by his beloved wife Judith (nee Beckett); son Christopher (Shelley nee Irvine); daughter Jennifer (Brad Rempel); grandchildren Patrick and Margaret; brothers Greg (Brenda Thomson) and Andrew (Lezlie Parker); sister Suzanne (John Grass) and a large extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nephews and many beloved friends. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family and friends. Born in Winnipeg, Don was raised in St. James and moved to Charleswood with his wife in 1972 where they raised their family. Don held a Master's degree in Computer Science and worked at the Canadian Wheat Board for his entire 32 year career. He rose to the position of Director, Business Consultancy, Information Technology Division, and in 1997 he was seconded to Human Resources as Director, Change Management where he remained until he retired at the end of 2000. His retirement was spent volunteering for the Silver Harbour Property Owner's Association, the Canadian Wheat Board Retirees Association and many international events including the Pan Am Games. Don enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cross country skiing, cycling and most recently working on the family tree. Don loved summers at the cabin he built in Silver Harbour with his family and traveling to the USA, with many Februaries spent in Corpus Christi, Texas. He always looked forward to the family wingding every summer at his brother's farm and spending time with his extended family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and uncle, Don's love of children and family was seen every day in his playful heart. His sense of humour and quick wit brought joy to all those who crossed his path. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family wishes to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and the Grace Hospital Emergency staff for their valiant efforts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lake Winnipeg Foundation. • Judi, we were so shocked and extremely saddened to learn of Don's sudden passing. We will miss him and can hardly fathom that we will not see him biking up to our cottage or walking to Jad's or see him at the front table at Association events. We will keep those memories. Don and yourself were such wonderful supporters of the Silver Harbour Association. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this very painful time. - Posted by: Dave and Verna Livingstone (Friends and cottage neighbours) on: Dec 29, 2014

  • So surprised and sorry to read of the loss of a good friend from the computer society days, buddies with Bill Browne and other contemporaries of that generation; now my personal community is again much diminished. Sincere condolences to all the family. A friend we have lost much too soon but who will be the subject of many fond memories. - Posted by: Harold McCort (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2014
